Since the beginning or the season I've been looking at our young players. Plekanec seems to have proven game after game that he is an NHL. However, we always try to forecast what type of player he'll be in the near future. I'm kind of indecisive on him. On one hand, he's a solid two way player and on the other, he seems like he has very good stick handling abilities and potential playmaker abilities. He's a player the Habs should work with in order to extract his highest potential. 3rd line center / 2nd line center / Impact player of the future?
On the current Habs team, Pleks can be a decent 3rd-line center forever and ever. On a better team with more talented wingers (either in Montreal or wherever he ends up next) I think the guy could be a 50-point player. He's got good speed, good moves, a knack for getting the puck on net, and he plays with intensity. I'd like to see the Habs keep him and find some talented wings to play with him.
He really is a bigger, but less talented Koivu. As Koivu is an excellent 2nd line center who can play decently as a 1st, so is Pleks an excellent 3rd line center who can play decently as a 2nd. I guess it comes down to whether decent is enough, or if you want excellence at the position. I really like Pleks and Bulis together on the 3rd line, but they need a two-way winger with physicality and goal-scoring skills. Edmonton's Dvorak would be a shoe-in. Lapointe might also be good. I don't know of anyone on the Habs right now who could truly compliment them. Maybe Latendresse down the line...

P.S. Pleks has to improve his draws if he is going to stay at center. 50% is a good night for him and that is not good enough.

Summed it up perfectly. Plekanec looks like the real deal, a solid regular for the future, though probably not a #1, but he hasn't even proven himself over one full season. There's a lot of hyperbole right now.
