Huet is a UFA at the end of this season!

...And-o had no idea that this was the case!

On the bright side...if Theo can get his game back over the Olympic break...maybe Huet would draw some serious inquiries at the deadline!

However, if Theo still stinks...the Habs will likely lose him for NOTHING!!!

Jose Theodore needs to start living up to his contract PERIOD

Huet's play has been a life saver for the team thus far. However before anyone annoits Huet as the second coming of Jacques Plante lets keep it in perspective he has appeared in just 14 games thus far and it is too early to tell if this is a case of a long time journeyman goalie catching some brief magic or he is in the process of establishing himself as a legitimate elite level goalie. So far so good, but the Canadiens face a brutal post olympic break schedule, with a lot of games compacted into a short time frame, Huet will have to endure a lot of mental and physical fatigue while trying to maintain his great recent performances. I hope he can do it. If Huet can maintain this level of performance I think the Canadiens will find away to keep him beyond this year.

Well he did win the Jaques Plante trophy twice in a row.

I was under the impression that Huet was only a restricted free agent next year. Bummer if he is a UFA.
Obviously I'm worried about Koivu, but isn't Bulis also about to be a free agent? I'd like to see both signed ASAP.

I have a feeling gainey will sign Huet to one more season anyway despite how good or bad Theo is! Gainey should want some experience in backup incase Theo goes south again! I think Theo has a better chance on being traded once he plays up to par because Gainey will have increased doubts and less confidence in him for the future! Just a thought but at Huet's wage, he may be more secure here if he can offer just as much as Theo! That extra Cap room would look juicy to clear room to pick up a #1 centermen and a stud-D-man!

 Get her done BG!

Of course we need Theo to play like he can for that reason alone! Big trade bait!

Wasn't the word early in the season that Huet wanted to go back and play in Europe next year or something?

Huet wanting to go back to Europe at the beginning of the season could have been a possibility but coming to Montreal & playing behind Theo at the time, most people would have thought there was not much chance of too much ice time but things change - since he could have come close to making what he is now in Eupope (just above league minium wage) but if he can keep up his good play - he will be in line for a good salary bump which I don't think a Euporean team would now match IMO.........

Huet is to play in Switzerland with Lugano next season, where he already played several years before going to L.A. and Montréal. Lugano is the richest club here known to pay good salaries, but if Huet is to make 1 Mio. $ or more, than Lugano surely will not compete. And another important reason Lugano is interested in Huet is because he'll get the Swiss Citizenship this year, so he does not count as a foreigner (there are only up to 5 non Swiss per team allowed here in the Swiss league). How much would you pay Huet to remain backup for Theo?

To remain backup next year? Not a ton, if by that you mean Theo is playing like a starter again.

Danis should be an ok backup next year.
