BG now .500 as coach
Permalink Closed

After back to back wins this weekend, the Habs are now 6-6 with BG as coach. It will be interesting to see if he can pull this team to a new level. My guess is we will need to be 8-10 games above .500 to make the playoffs so that means 90-92 points by seasons end.

GP  W    L   O   PTS

53  25  22   6     56

We have 29 games remaining, meaning we will have to go 17-12 or 18-11 to make it into the playoffs. That's alot of wins...

Good statistical analysis, John.

Under Gainey so far, the Habs have played some of their best hockey, and certainly their worst hockey of the year.  One doesn't know what team to expect one night to the next.

I think that going 18-1 is still pretty feasible at this point.

It has seemed that this season has been full of teams on one "streak" or another. Or teams that started to picked up the pace and never looked back like Buffalo or Carolina. Which are 7-2-1 and 8-2-0 in their last 10 games respectivly.

Besides they still have 2 games in hand on Boston and they also play them 4 more times this year.

And have you looked at the April schedule?

If not check it out:

We play Boston 3 times! (4 point cushion up for grabs each game) New Jersey and Buffalo are also in the mix.

Its not about how many games they win it's about WHICH games they win.

The fact that we are still in the hunt for a playoff spot at all is an advertisement for those lobbying to revamp the playoff system in the NHL. But I will take it.

It sure beats what it was like when I was a kid though. 21 teams, 16 playoff spots. The regular season didn't even matter.

Good point Plouf. Personally I would go with the top 20 teams in the WHOLE LEAGUE, irregardless of division. But we know that will not happen because of the $.
