Gotta love those Newfs!

Ryder is up to 23 goals now, and barring injury should exceed last year's total -25 - easily, and could hit the mid - 30's.

And a nice young man at that!

I am hoping it is contageous, Huet is spreading optimism in the d roo, I just hope Bg keeps starting Huet for two Buffalo games. If he does not it would be a very bad mistake. I think BG is actually backed into a corner and must start Huet. Thats a good thing  Go Habs Go

I agree, BG won't have a choice but to play him now. It's obvious that Huet is taking this opportunity to prove himself and doing a fine job running with him. Good on ya Huet!!

BG will continue to play huet until he plays his way back on the bench.  he has earned the number one spot and will keep it until he starts playing like he belongs to be the backup, simple as that.  we got some momentum and guys are starting to skate and play like we were at the beginning of the season.  think of how deflated the team would be if gainey started theo against buffalo and he lets in three softies in the first 10 minutes.  they would simply quit, i know i wouldn't try if it was going to be for nothing!

as for ryder, he has been one of my favourite habs since i first seen him play last year.  his play seems to elevate witht he momentum of the team.  the team plays well and ryder scores three....the team plays poorly adn ryder disappears.  this will change with more maturity and experience.  hope the team and ryder continue to progress and he nets 30+ this season.

(Warning to highjackers and hitchhicker - This is a Ryder thread - let try to keep the threads on topic.)

Ryder is my favourite Hab. Been hard to see him in the rut lately. Hopefully he'll build on this Philly game. Sure, Philly was not exaclty overflowing with talent, but the goals Ryder made were pure goal scorer goals...especially that tips from Begin. Wow. I'm guessing he'll get at least 10 more this year, though it's hard not to push for 40 total.

Love Ryder since the first game. Blueprint of the future Habs, and when the team is sorted out, he'll be scoring twice as much

brooky- I say we u drive up this summer, we pick up Nilsey on the way to the boat..and we go over to the Rock to see Ryder. Bring your liver intact. You may not see it again. (By the way, I have met Ryder way back when he played for CJ in Hull. A nicer guy I have never met. And the best part is that he is still the same. I played golf with him and CJ last summer. He is the most down to earth guy you could meet. Still has a thick Newfie accent lol)

So.............. I count ten Guinesses (Guini?) on the way to Halifax, and only three thereafter.  Where's the fairness in that?????????

Another great pictorial post by our resident artiste!

I think Ryder could do so much more! He's hanging out high slot too much for my liking. Sure, he can shoot but his passing and ice vision are not strong attributes. I guess what I'm saying is, I would like to see him be more physical in the crease to open up ice for his teamates and for rebounds! More garbage goals would help as they don't always have to be pretty pick the corner goals! If he's going to be one dimensional than he needs to go to the crease with and without the puck! If he does that, he can have as strong a career as Dave Andreychuk!

In saying that though, I really like his potential and have to remember he's only a second year player! But just because he gets more goals this season, doesn't really mean he's improving in other areas but merely still shooting the puck well! He needs to work on other areas for sure to offer his line more options and to complete himself!

Ryder's one of my favourite Habs, but I agree with AB on some things. Ryder could use his body more. For a guy his size he can absolutely paste people. He needs to show more of that. And he needs to go to the net regularly. Plus he's pretty inconsistent defensively.
Still, he's got that shot and that hand-eye coordination, and he can pass when he wants to. I disagree about the passing. Ryder makes some surprisingly brilliant passes for a sniper.

Maybe what I should say is he can pass but rarely does and when he does, the timing of it is bad! I'll keep my eye on him next game on our passing opinions because now I'm curious! It's just that I only missed two games all season and don't remember Ryder being brilliant with passes!

Don't believe just me. Someone else out there must be able to corroborate.

I know!  Why don't we give up on Ribeiro and Koivu, and start a whole new Ryder-bashing war?

And-o?  Muller?  John?  Barry? You in?

Of course there is much more that Ryder can do. But lets remember, the kid was playing in the East Coast League a couple years back. The fact that he is leading the team in goal scoring is a testimant to his potential I think. I believe that he will become a solid 30 plus goal man on a regular basis in the NHL and those , as we are all painfully aware, are hard to come by. Hopefully the other aspects of his game improve. For what it i sworth, CJ says the kids work ethic in practice and willingness to learn are great.

Oh yeah. No doubt Ryder's a find. I wouldn't be able to bash Ryder, because even if he has his faults, he continues to get better. He looks like a top-two line winger for years to come.

No one is bashing him! Just stating facts that he needs to improve in other areas other than shooting the puck!

I've mentioned before that trading Ryder would haunt us like the LeClair trade! Way to early to bash or give up on him!
