Time to bash Saks!
Permalink Closed

No it's not! I'm just messing with you!

Now that I have your attention, I feel Saks, Kovy, Bonk, Ribs, Theo , Souray and Zed have all had their justified bashing this season!

I'm just wondering how Ryder has escaped criticism! Is it because he has 20 goals? I actually think this guy is playing poorly! Sure he has a good shot but I think he needs to do more. For a big guy, he has been losing battles on the boards and losing the puck too much in traffic rather than passing! Just doesn't seem to have the same intensity as the last season! I thought this guy had the potential to be our power forward but he needs to work on his game and work harder in general!

Sure, the whole team has sucked but he can do way better also! Notice he had no chemistry with Ribs but yet got most of his points with him! He needs to play with a good passer because he's one dementional! I'm not saying Ribs is the answer but that we really don't have the luxury of having him float around waiting for a pass without him going to the net!

i disagree. Ryder is playing well, considering the fact that he is only in his second year, he has surpassed my expectations and this guy will be 50 goal scorer in the NHL. Probably has the most underated wrist shot in the NHL, its accurate and its a cannon. Ranks right up there with Iginla's wrister. Below the circles, if there is a chance for a clear shot, i want ryder on my team.

I agree, he has a great shot and with an elete centermen, he would have more goals! My point is we need him to work harder and do more! He seemed to work harder and play more intense in the last season! He's becoming too one dementional! The Habs are not good enough to support that right now!

If he doesn't have the work ethic to go along with his potential talent, his size really isn't helping the Habs! He's no Brett Hull and of course will never be Iginla! My hope was though that he should make a difference every shift! He takes too many shifts off and not creating room for his line mates!

I don't think there is anyone on the Habs who can escape criticism.  Some deserve it more than others, though.

Ryder is a pretty good player, but for his size I would like to see him be more physical.  He seems to shy away from contact and digging for pucks in the corner. He does take the odd night off too, something that everyone on this team is guilty of.  He will continue to get better though and he is one of our hopes for the future.

If it's flying under the radar you're looking for, I vote Sundstrom...

Koivu is hot and cold.  For every ot winner he has, he has been minus for the previous 4 games.  Ryder needs to produce, bottom line.

I like RYDER,I hope he does really well, but i think he has slacken off from last year. DO NOT be lazy, WORK HARD, and will be fine.

I am a huge fan of Ryder, the guys plays a very physical game considering he is a relatively small (not big like others are saying) forward at 6'0 198.  But he does need to come to play every night, and at both ends of the rink.

Ryder is flying under the radar because he is producing no matter what line he is on

I suppose you could single out virtually every Hab to varying degrees of below average performance. Could Ryder do more I suppose, but the guy is the leading scorer on the team, a role i thought should be fulfilled by either Kovalev or Zednik. He is a second year kid who at least is doing some positive things on the ice. The crux of the problem for this team is mediocre goaltending pure and simple. Great goaltending masks alot of deficiencies, and when a team has confidence in a goalie suddenly everyone plays better, or at least gives the illusion that everyone is playing better. No matter how well everyone else is playing poor goaltending will sabatoge a team every time.

Theodore is the highest paid Hab, fairly or unfairly the buck and the puck should stop with him. To start nitpicking over the play of a second year guy who is still the leading goal scorer on the team and has to be saddled with the inept play of Riberio on most nights, is laying the blame at the wrong person.

Over the past 40 years if you look at the Stanley Cup winners in all but a handful of cases those championship teams had great goaltending. The Canadiens are not getting it this year, and on a marginally talented team that is a death sentence. Talk all you want about a lack of leadership from Koviu, Bonk's horrid play, Kovalev as a floater, if the Habs are to turn around the season it starts with much better goaltending.

 Good post!

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying I don't like Ryder! Actually I really like him and if I were Gainey I would not trade this guy! It would haunt us like the LeClair trade!

What I'm saying though is he needs to work harder on other aspects of his game to reach his full potential and so he doesn't become one dimensional which he is showing signs of!

For a young guy, it would be a mistake to assume he can get by on his shot alone!

Bingo Abman re: Ryder. This guy is scoring some goals but with minimal effort. He hits 5 guys a year and all 5 of them leave the ice in agony. He's our new John LeClair. I suspect he could be a power forward with 40 goals and a trail of crumpled bodies if he'd ever bring a little piss & vinegar to his game.
