Ribiero on First Line

Team 990 reports that Ribs will play wing tonite with Koivu and Kovalev. Zednick will be back but on the 2nd line. Interesting. One thing you need to remember though is that putting Ribs on the 4th line has good and bad to it. The good is that you give him less ice time. The bad is that he is NOT a 4th line player. He cannot play defence and can't hit. Moving him to the wing with Saks and Kovalev may be interesting, given the fact they do not get along.

Note- barry33 thinks this is purely about showcasing Ribs on the first line so BG can unload him.

I think this might be a good idea. Only thing I worry about is defencive zone coverage with 3 offencive minded players... We will see.

Hey Johnny…I think that your defensive concerns regarding a line of “offensively minded players” consisting of Ribs/Saku/Kovy are the same thing as And-o’s!!!

If Gainey ices this line on a consistent basis versus the likes of Carolina, Theodore will see more rubber than a pothole on main-street during the Christmas rush!

…that sure is asking allot from the defensemen!!!

The only thing such a line will showcase is the Habs need to upgrade their team defense!

Might be interesting, but I'd much rather see Downey on the first line. I wouldn't expect to see Ribs there in the 3rd if nothing much happens offensively.

Actually, I agree with all of you! Placing Ribs there will give Saks too much defensive burden!

These guys need someone doing the dirty work to dig the puck out and I think with Downey or Ivanans they would get more space and play bigger!

Although this move is probably about a project to give Ribs more potential productive time and maybe also to get Ribs and Saks on the same page!

As Barry mentioned also, it could be to show case Ribs!

I actually think this is a great idea, Ribs is a pretty good play maker, and since him and Ryder can't seem to pass each other the puck, it might make sense to play him with these two.  I would have to agree though that if it doesn't work right away, a change needs to be made.  I would rather see Ribs playing with these two over Zednik or Higgins, no offense to Higgins, but he is not ready for the first line, and Zednik must have a no pass clause in his contract, must be the same agent that got Ribs the no shot clause.  Will be interesting to see how it works out.  But I think we all know that Gordie Dwyer could look good with Koviu and Kovalev when they are on.  Guess time will tell.

We know Ribs has good hands and can get things going when he is "on". I think this is a worthwhile experiment.

WHY IS GAINEY BABYING THE PLAYERS! YOU SHOULD EARN YOUR PLACE ON THE TOP LINE.

Poors Saks will never see the puck tonite..both Ribs and Kovalev use the puck like it is a new Xmas toy from Daddy and they do not want to share

RDS.com says that even though Ribs practiced on the 1st line he is not playing on the first line, he's on the 4th. The Lines are as follows:

Higgins-Koivu-Kovalev

Ryder-Plekanec-Perezhogin

Bulis-Begin-Zednik

Downey-Ribeiro-Begin

Gainey is a tricky fellow!!! lol
