1) CJ was a good coach and should not have been let go. BG taking over does not seem to have made a difference with the way the players are playing. The main benefit I see from BG being behind the bench is he will be able to see what the team needs to get better, from the best position possible. Too bad CJ had to pay for it. Us fans including myself got on his case on this board and I apologize for that.
2) Saku is a first line center anywhere in this league (other than injuries) and not sure how much more you can expect from your captain. He is the third highest paid player on the team, leading scorer, leading +/- and brings it every game. Like I have said before, put Saku in Vancouver between Bert and Naslund or in Ottawa between Heatley and Alfredson and let's see how he does.... When Kovy feels like playing Sak miraculously has 3 points.
3) The Habs have no depth at center. After Saku this team has very little. Between Ribs, Bonk and Begin (not bad as a 4th line center) we are in bad shape. If we could remove Ribs and Bonk and have Bulis and Pleks at center that would be nice. Bulis for the second line and Pleks for the third line I think we would be in much better shape. We would then need to replace Ribs and Bonk with some wingers in the offseason.
4) Our goaltending has been very suspect this year. If Theo does not turn it around on a consistent basis, don't make any plans to watch the Habs in the postseason.
5) We have 4 NHL defenceman. Markov, Rivet, Souray and Dandenault. Streit should be no more than a filler on this team, i.e. 8th defenceman (minors). Bouillon is being overplayed because we have no one else, should be a 7th defenceman. Komisarek can be better but needs time to get better.
6) This team is a playoff team, we should be able to make it in 7th or 8th position (depends on Theo). I thought as high as 6 before the season started but now I know better. I think we overachieved for about 15 games and have underachieved for the last 25. We can do better and I have faith that we will.
BG will reshape this team in the offseason and I expect much better next year.
Kovy's play does have an influence on Koivu's production. That said, Koivu is too quiet and mild mannered ... we never see or hear about him calling anyone out (except that fight with ribs in training camp)
NHL Dmen .... I think we have 3 (Rivet and Markov and Bouillon) .... Souray is a bust and the sad thing is he gets loads of minutes. Dandenault is also a big disappointment ... coming from a Bowman coached Stanley Cup winning team to the habs, expectation was he would be a leader for habs... all he seems to do is take bad penalties and be on the ice for a lot of goals. Komy doesn't seem to be be progressing this year ... no points and he is minus 9 I think, AND he is not physical. At this point it looks like he may not become the player many are hoping he would be. So....Dmen is a real problem area.
Goaltending has sucked too, well below expectations.
Wingers have been disppointing too. Bonk, Zed and Ribs especially, Ryder lately, and Kovy too (inconsistency).
Actually, when you add up all the problems, it's envouraging the habs are battling for 8th spot.
