Who here has hockey creditials?
Permalink Closed

Just wondering who here is involved in the game more than just watching it for fun. Who here is involved in hockey in some way shape or form?

I got to wondering this last night as we talked, I was surprized that we have a few insiders. When i came to the board I thought I would be one of the only one with inside info, silly me lol. Anyways I guess I'll list my hockeyness with you guys, anyone else can follow up.

-I played hockey from the age of 9, till now (23).

-I have been a referee since the age of 14.

-I have coached for 3 seasons

-I have attended lessons with Tretriak about goaltending (although I am not a goalie)

-I have help run power skating classes, along with stick handling skill improvment camps.

-I know a few NHL referees from just being one, was evaluted by a few NHL guys.

-I know a few NHL scouts, and other members of the hockey world. People in St-Louis, Montreal, Florida, Toronto, New jersey, Pheonix.

-I see the habs everytime they leave for a road trip, and come home from one.

-I also attended Ron Fournier's referee school as a learning experience for when I train rookie referees and evaluate other referees.

- played hockey since i was 5 started as a center and moved to a goalie when i was 9 and have been one ever since...although i am seriously thinking of returning to a defensive center as i have been playing one in a pick-up mens league for sometime now as one and my goalie awareness really helps on the defensive aspect of the game and i have really good passing skills for an offensive threat aswell. ( its fun to suprise guys who are twice my age )

- attended Jacque Martins 3 years ago training camp and got to work with Rollie meleanson

- attended Bob Hartleys/ michel therriens training camp 2 years ago and worked with Rollie again

- Personally know Bob Hartley and have played golf with him 3 times...hockey talk the whole time... ( tried to throw him off his game....didnt work)

- Gary Barton- NHL Linesman...met him and got free habs tickets from him and also a habs puck from a Habs vs Toronto game signed by Koivu

Ben Pouliot- 4th over-all draft choice last year... personal friend of mine have played hockey with him more times than i can remember. and he IS that good!!!

Jay- I have played at an elite level since I was 5. AAA Midget, then 5 years of University followed by a cup of tea in the lowest rung of the pros. I now coach a Bantam AAA team and am a Level 1 Certified Coach which is the highest level you can obtain (theoretically I can now coach a Major Junior Team but I can see that happening any time soon).

And as you know I am good friends with CJ as we met when I was in university and he was an usher in my ill fated wedding. In fact, at my bachelor party the man left me in my underwear on the side of the bridge in Fredericton. Through him I have been able to meet alot of people in hockey including Koivu, Theo, Markov and Souray.

Nice guys.

I should also note that I'm a level 4 referee, level 5's get NHL jobs, level 6s (top) get the international jobs.

I never played high level quality like AAA because of politics (only english person around), but i always do AAA games and so forth. I also do alot of cross border tournaments, and have been sent to Europe to referee tourneys in exchange programs for referees for a few months

I learned to skate on a pond and once scored six goals in one game in the Halifax Chartered Accountants Gentlemen's League.  Really.  (Also one goal in an entire season in another year.)

I also know Sidney Crosby's uncle really well.

 Great topic,

Played "AAA" most of my life, also palyed a little Junior A and C, had a tryout offer for the Laval Titan but never went, they saw me play in Tourney there when I was palying in a "AAA" elite team in the summer.  Played on a line for a short time with Jason Arnott, he was15  and I was 18.  Remember having a 8 point night with him one game.  Besides playing with him i hang out on occasions with him when he comes home.  Ric Jackman is a buddy and lives near by. My brother and friends go down to Pittsburgh often to hook up with him. Got a picture of one my buddies sitting between Crosby and Lemieux after a practice.  My buddy is a prankster and was asking Sid and Mario questions about what was going on that night, like we was their buddy and they were going to hang out and got to the bar or something. Played against Chris Neal and Aaron Downey know them a little.  Ref'd for a few years just make some spending money nothing major though.  Great excercise.  Now just playing in a Beer league with my brother and my best buddies for about 10 years now!  Lost two games in that span, but the league is very weak.  Won our share of tourneys but also got our clocks cleaned in alot of tourneys.  The guys have a hard time staying out of the strip bars in outtown tourneys.

Har de har har.  At least we never lost count of the score.

And the beer went down pretty good after the games too.  And my one-time linemate was a former AHL'er, who left professional hockey in favour of the exciting world of Chartered Accountancy.

My post was already self-deprecating, barry, you didn't have to depracate me as well..........

I also played high level hockey as a youngster.  AAA for my entire life, alternate on Ontario's under 17 team (attitude kept me from being a regular).  Played some Junior B and was drafted into the OHL before my penis took over all of my thinking.  Now I am an armchair superstar.  The further away from the ice a player is, the better they always are.  To quote former leaf Brad Smith, while in the press box I was as good or better than Wayne Gretzky, but when I got back on the ice I was Brad Smith again.  That sums me up perfectly.

sometimes they do a segment with younger kids and i did that. Usually they choose people who play a high level but that wasn't my case. I got a lot of flack cause i was introduced as a "star" hockey player in house league.
