Yikes! One of the best teams in the league! How did that happen anyway?

Again good management like the Rangers and Sabres! Three teams that accomplished alot in a short time! GMs knew what kind of players to build or trade for the new NHL era! Some great young talent on these teams! Good drafting also! Good team chemistry!

Too bad Habs couldn't rebuild that fast! It's been what 10 yrs for us in the rebuilding mode?

 I guess I don't sound confident do I?

 Prove me wrong Habs!

Wow! This should be a good matchup. Only 20 points seperating the 2 teams in the standings and Carolina has won something like 7 of 8. But hey we beat Ottawa when no one thought we could so let's hope. I take it that Bob Gainey's Theo experiement is over? I will say one thing. Julien gave Theo EVERY chance to redeem himself until, during the last week of his tenure, he had no choice but to go with Huet who was actually stopping the puck. Sorry boys and girls, but 5 goals on 9 shots does not cut it in the NHL.

i just don't get Theo these days.   he looks decent for a few games then just crumbles.  some games he looks like that mvp goalie we had a few years ago and other games he looks like he wouldn't even crack the bulldogs lineup.  i know its not skill thats wrong with theo, because an MVP is not a fluke    so whats goin on upstairs??   huet might slowly become the #1 goalie before the season ends    hes definatly lookin good, and if the competition doesn't light a fire under theo's arse we might see an expensive back-up. like an over paid red-light rasincot (sp??)  just thinking of him makes me cringe...

In my mind I'm going to Carolina.... and boy does my head ache! But I'll still be cheering till the last and hopin' for the best!

It's all about undertow tonight, as the boys' cheeks have healed from the big spanking, leaving them free to sit back and relax - habs '06 style. Hate to say it, but I feel we're going to see another shining example of how thin a cloth we cover ourselves in these days.

The 'Canes have been playing like Ottawa with a shotgun, and the General Lee is filled with fuel and ready to make us look like Boss Hogg in a chicken coop...

Theo is starting.

Any news as to how the lines are gonna shape up with Plecs back in the lineup? Is Downey supposed to dress tonight?

Game Preview: Canadiens vs. Hurricanes

RALEIGH - The Canadiens will look to get back on track tonight against the Hurricanes after dropping their sixth straight road game with a 6-2 loss to the Canucks Saturday night. It was the first time since Nov. 24, 1993 against the Flyers that Montreal had allowed six goals in a single period.

Bob Gainey’s squad can take comfort in the fact that the RBC Center has been good to them in recent visits. Prior to the Canadiens’ 5-3 loss to the Hurricanes on New Year’s Eve, Montreal had not suffered a regulation defeat in Carolina over its 10 previous visits (4-0-4-2).

The Hurricanes, who had their nine-game winning streak snapped Saturday in Washington at the hands of Alexander Ovechkin and Capitals, will be aiming to extend another streak tonight against Montreal. Already riding a franchise-record seven game winning streak on home ice, Peter Laviolette’s crew will also be trying to keep pace with the Eastern Conference co-leading Ottawa Senators.

Tonight’s showdown with the former Hartford Whalers will also provide a preview of what to expect when the Canadiens return home from their six-game road odyssey, as they’ll once again face the Hurricanes next Tuesday at the Bell Centre.

20/20: By having a hand in both Montreal goals Saturday against the Canucks, Craig Rivet surpassed the 20-point mark for the third time of his 11-year NHL career. In doing so, he also matched his career high in assists set in 2001-02, when he also had 17 helpers. The 31-year-old, whose average ice-time of 23:45 ranks second behind only Andrei Markov, will be leaned on more than ever with Markov sidelined by a shoulder injury for the next couple of weeks. Rivet is also only four points away from his career-high of 25.

Tough act to follow: The Hurricanes just had their second nine-game winning streak of the season snapped and history suggests that Carolina fans shouldn't start planning their Stanley Cup parade route just yet. Only four other teams have ever had a pair of nine-game winning streaks in one season including the Canadiens (1943-44), the Bruins (1929-30 and 1970-71) and the Red Wings (1995-96), with the Canadiens being the only team to win the Stanley Cup that same year.

A Whale of a time: Four current Canadiens will forever have the Whalers/Hurricanes on their career resumes. Alex Kovalev made his first NHL game a memorable one by scoring his first NHL goal in a 5-2 Rangers loss to the Whalers on Oct. 12, 1992. Jose Theodore made his NHL debut on Feb. 21, 1996 in a 5-3 loss to the Hurricanes in a game where a 19-year-old Theodore played a total of 8:58 in relief of starter Pat Jablonski. Former New York Ranger Niklas Sundstrom played his first NHL game on Oct. 7, 1995 in Hartford. While still with the L.A. Kings, Cristobal Huet stopped all 30 shots in a 0-0 tie in Carolina on March 15, 2003 for his first NHL career shutout.

Manny Almela is a writer for canadiens.com

Michael Ryder has five points in five career games against the Hurricanes, including a goal their first meeting of the season on New Year's Eve.

Can someone please tell me what Theo is doing in net , someone please tell me. Now, Theo let 5 in the other night in 20 minutes. Tonight another 2 in 20 mins. Thats 7 in 40 minutes (1 every 5 mins or so) more importantly how many shots were taken against him in letting up 7 goals

Theodore was actually yanked about 10 minutes into that last game - so that's 7 goals in 30 minutes - one every four minutes.  Even worse.  I'm watching the election, not the game, but if Theo is that bad - yank him again!  We have a viable option.

Nice move Bobby. I am sure Claude feels better that he has been replaced by a much smarter coach

Did he lean over to whisper anything to Pierre Boivin, behind the coach, on his way to the bench?

So that's ten goals allowed in his last 28 shots.   That's a save % of .643.   Sainte Lorette have mercy on our souls....................

Well, the red team is doing well in the Canadian election so far - leading 20 to 9 to 3 (funny score!).  But it's still early in the first period, and I know that the lead will not last................

You know, I saw Tracy Chapman in concert one night in Vancouver in 1988 - she was the opening act to Bob Dylan in the old Pacific Coliseum.  That was a hell of a night!  Chapman is from Boston, right?  I imagine you might have seen her, david?

What the heck was going through Bob Gainey's bald head starting Theo again tonite?!??? What has Theo shown that would give anyone even a faint hope that he could stop a beachball? Rumour has it Theo jumped out in front of a bus tonite, wanting to end it all, but the bus went between his legs.

Poor Aaron Downey probably wishes Gainey had left him on waivers in Peoria
