The Newness Has Worn off the "New Car"

Well I will admit one thing. The newness wore off alot faster than I thought it would. The "newness" I refer to is the renewed vigor shown for 2 whole games when Carbo and CG took over. It is now painfully apparent that it was nothing more than an andrenelyn rush fueled by fear of losing your job, and maybe a bit of guilt that you cause a good guy to lose his.

But now we are back to the same thing. square one. To be fair to Gainey, he has not had enough practice time with these guys to implement a new system. The only problem is, the system that many of us whined about under the Julien regime was Bob Gainey's system.  He and CJ developed it together. (Hey Kovalev, I am waiting for another BRILLIANT comment regarding coaching to come out of your mouth today)

We, my friends, are left with the same problems we had 2 weeks ago. The same problems Therrien inherited in Pittsburgh are still there. We have inconsistent goaltending (Not faulting Theo but your elite player has to somehow make the big saves to give his team a breath), porous defence with no depth (if it kills us having Markov and/or Souray out that much then we are in huge depth trouble), and lack of scoring (I love Saks but your leading scorere should have 20-25 goals by now, whomever he is).

But what bothers me the most and sickens me is the dressing room. These guys put the "dys" in Dysfunctional.  It became very clear to me during the Julien firing and watching Souray fight and still no fire on that bench, that these gusy do not care and only get excited when their "buddy" does well. Saks goes nuts when Rivet does well and vice versa, Ribs gets excited when Theo does well or Dagenais scores a goal in Hamilton, NO ONE gets excited when Souray does well because he had the audacity to stand up for his coach and call out the pathetic bums who hung him out to dry.

The bright side? Gainey is behind the bench and can fix it. It will not be pretty. Get 'er done Bobby!!

Hey Barry

I didn't have an opportunity to log in when CJ got axed. I thought he was a very good coach and it was a premature move. Gainey should have at least made one move - be it picking up Andreychuk or a trade before heading that way.

One thing I'll always remember Claude for is how well his set-up plays worked in the final minutes of games - during the time-outs he'd sketch out the play and whether they resulted in a goal or not, they always demonstrated that he was smart, creative and new well the individual hockey skills of his team.

I predict he'll end up coaching a winner somewhere.

Thanks Clegs. But I am now converted. The more I see of this team the more I realized that Gainey did the right thing. He could not make a trade so he had to do something. We now have the guy behind the bench who can identify the problems and rectify them. CJ is an excellent technical coach who knows the game and his players very well. But that is not what the team needs right now. It needs to have some leadership in that dressing room and that is lacking.

I thought we should have picked up Andreychuk as well, until I saw some footage of him skating.  He may have provided some leadership, but he would just be another pilon out there, and we know we have lots of those these days!!!
