I watched the National last night, The guests ( Chantel Hebert and Peter Coyne)were discussing the upcoming election. They had all but written off the Liberals. They basicly were saying this is not how Martin wanted to be going out and that the NDP were going to be picking up seats. Can I get any insight ???

The NDP will pick up seats from disgruntled voters who are tired of the Liberal regime with their corruption and misdeeds, but are afraid of the Conservatives (or don't like their anti-gay policies, etc.). The votes going to the NDP will not be enough to do much for that party, but will llikely take away enough Liberal votes that we'll end up with a minority Conservative government. Then we can do this all over again in a year or so..............

At this point in time the polls point to a conservative minority government, somewhere around 138 to 145 seats, just short of the required 155 seats to form a majority government. The Liberals have been badly damaged by years of perceived corruption, as evidenced by the adscam scandal, with the liberals illegally channeling funds to Quebec based organizations to promote federalism in away that contravened the laws pertaining to the 95 referendum. Other corruption issues such as the income trust decision which allegedly allowed liberal friends to benefit with insider trading information have eroded liberal support in the election. Additionally, the continued bad blood between old Chretien loyalists, not invited to help out in this election for Martin has hurt the liberals. The Conservatives have run an efffective campaign based on a need for change, and have kept their more conterversial social policies in the background while stressing their more progressive tax reduction policies. So far for them it is working.
What bothers me (and I am neither Liberal nor Conservative) i show politicians feel we have such short memmories. Mulroney was one of the crookedest PM's in our history yet we are expected to believe that only the Martin Liberals have had their hands in the public purse. Why do you think these guys leave careers as lawyers and Doctor sto go into politics? For the 80 grand a year MP salary? HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. That is what politics is all about folks. Harper will be in there 2 days and will have to start paying back every person who worked to get him elected (either through tenders to ad firms, trucking company's..whatever).
And the other thing we have short memories about is Harper's "transformation". He is from Alberta and feels that it is high time Alberta stopped supporting us down east. 2 years ago he comes down here and rants about we in the east having a sense of entitlement. Now he is campaigning claiming what hard workers we are here. He has been HEAAAAALED!

The republicans down here are having their own problems too. I bet Linda Stronick wishes she stayed in the Conservatives. I am suppose to keep this hockey related, so I know Harper likes Hockey lol
By Belinda Stronach crossing the floor, I highly doubt many of the constituents in her riding who supported her as a Conservative will support her as a Liberal.
And as for the election, a Conservative minority would be much better than a Liberal minority, I would say. But I still would like to see Canadians give the Conservative party a chance at a majority. After all, they can't do any worse than the Liberals!

This is Canada, David, every politician likes hockey! Not sure about Belinda, but I've seen her skate on TV (on the Rideau Canal); she seemed to have pretty good wheels.
