From the Edmonton Sun: RW Georges Laraque, G Ty Conklin and top forward prospect Robbie Schremp going to Montreal for goalie Jose Theodore.
First, can someone say if this would help us? Second, why wouldn't we do it? Looks pretty good to me. Being a Habs fan (a not necessarily a players fan) anything that improves the position of the team a hair should be done. Where would this fall?
Arent the oilers in cap trouble? Even if not, I dont see this happening. Esp. cause Laraque doesn't wanna play in Montreal. But Gainey isnt gonna give up a "star" (and I use that term loosely) goalie for a back up goalie, a career 4th line player and a prospect.
I wouldn't go for it. I was at the game last night and Theo seems to be coming back to form.
I live in Edmonton and from what I see and hear, George is too slow for this league. Haven't heard much about Robbie S. Although if he is good, he would be up and playing with Oilers who are having problems with Cory Cross and Ulanov's inconsistent play. Ulanov is injured at the moment.
It would fail because Huet's not ready to be number one between the pipes, IMO. Also, much as I love the guy, Laraque isn't as effective in today's NHL. Conklin's a backup, not a starter.
If Bob gives Theo away, he needs an effective number one goalie.

Rumour has it that he has asked for a trade to a Western team to be closer to habgirl

That would be a bunk trade, but Robbie Schremp is excactly what the Habs need though - size, hands and a physical game (and a North American!). Lots of upside on this kid.

i dont like that trade at all , we get nothing we need besides a goon , shremph is a project . if the earlier rumour of theo and ryder for luongo was true (?) how about theo and zednik , if we can sign luongo to a multi year deal that is . he want out of florida .
i wouldnt do the ryder 1 but zed yes if we could sign luongo , theo and zed are slumping now , theo is beginning to play better but will he get it going in time . florida has said they are looking for a forward . whats wrong with this trade figs . to much or do you think florida wouldnt do it .
you wouldnt trade for luongo but would take conklin and the rest of edmontons trash.

Like most trades, there is a "gamble factor" involved and the GM needs to decide if it is worth it. In Laraque you get a big, tough guy who does not look out of place on the 4th line. I really do not see him being any better than Ivanis in that department. Conklin has been very inconsistent and is a big part of the reason Lowe is looking for a goalie. And Schremp..well he has all the tools but to say he is a "project" is being kind. You think Ribs is flaky? This guy makes Ribs look like a choir boy lol. I say thumbs down.

Size? I believe Schremp is under 6 feet tall. Has some talent but is a problem, and where was he in the junior tourney. Physical game, has a bit of a temper but when he comes to Barrie the Colts defensemen with size knock him off the puck fairly easily and regularly!

I just think it's too much. I'd want a mid draft pick or another player. Or would have to be provisional - ie if Luongo then signs else where, we get your first round pick or some compensation. Just think that Theo+ is too steep.
