New Jersey has been soooo close to being over the salary cap several times this season…why not lighten their load with a smallish prospect for Victor Kozlov…and his $2.5’ish million per season!?!?!?!?  Honestly, these guys are harboring Brad Ference in the minors...who would EASILY qualify to skate as a top 4 guy with the Habs!!!

Why not pick away at Team Mario for something tangible on defense.  Clearly, they will soon be having a “fire sale”!!!  Why not be proactive!!!

Florida seems to always be near panic mode!  They have loads of assets that the Habs could employ!

Edmonton is practically crying for a goalie…is Danis EVER going to be useful to Montreal???

C’MON BOB!!!

…not certain how everyone else feels, but I’d rather lose the odd trade than win a top round draft selection every year!!!

Totally agree.  I guess this road trip will determine how things are going to shake out.

I think Bob might be waiting for the offseason to pick up and let go of players.

And-o, don't you think Bob has been pushing the markets already? All the teams you named may seem desparate, but I think we are seen the same way.

Also, haven't you noticed how slim the trading in the whole league had been? Everyone seems to need everything (except the sens- grrrrr!).

Here's a good assignment that will clear it up for you, and-o. Go down to your local supermarlet with $1.50, tell the butcher you want a rack of lamb, but you have no more money than that, then pay close attention to the resulting exchange.

Bob's got $1.50 now....

If that is the case would that indicate that he has given up on this season and is looking to next year?

I don't think he has given up on the season. He will let the guys who want to play for the team keep playing and those who don't will be gone. He won't make desperate moves that the fans and media think he should make.

Man, would I love to see Kozlov in the B-B-&-R. It might even coerce Kovy into picking up his game, so as not to lose his status as the premier Eastern European on the team!

There's plenty of talk out there right now. But Bob won't move unless we come out on top. Expect a couple fire sales (PIT & CHI) and for Bob to take what he can ONLY if we end up in a better spot.

Of course Mr. Patient won't be rash but what And-o is saying is that there is available players out there that if he waits too long, Gainey will miss out on again!

Gainey rarely makes a trade but if he ever wants to take the next step up to compete at a high level then he has to fill the holes that have been there too long already!

Barry's question was a good one also! What is Gainey's long term expectations? As for myself, I'm tired of the word..Rebuilding!

Gainey hasn't been GM for very long so I don't know how many oppertunities there have been to make all these trades that are being thrown around here. Brooklyn made a good point in saying that trading has been slim everwhere, and I think that was expected when the new CBA was comming into place. I would like to see some movement too but I don't think Gainey is "missing out" on anything.

As for long-term expectations... they are just that, "long-term". And I would say by the looks of the age of this team and the fact that they are still very much in the playoff picture that his expectations for the next few years are that these young guys can only get better and will grow into great hockey players. Except Streit and his pee-wee level wrist shots from the point. He might be a lost cause.

This thread reminds me of just before we traded for Kovalev. Seriously. All kinds of talk and then out of the blue, a trade. Rumours are just that, rumours. Until they hit the real mainstream and truly concerned media (TSN or RDS) I usually don't put a lot of value to them (although it is fun to speculate)
