Gainey has been getting flack for the Bonk trade especially with the new contracted Theo who has magnified the poor goaltending! I'm sure Gainey truely thought Theo was special enough to trade Garon and then sign Theo to big numbers! I'm sure he would like to kick his own ass for that one!
His desperation to redeem himself was obvious with the now publicized Theo meeting!
He may be still mad enough to trade Theo for embarrassing him!
If the little goalie with the smurf equipment ever cleans up his act, look for him to be traded!
After that, the player that will give Gainey back a little integrity is Huet when he gets to be #1!

Obviously the cover your own butt attitude in Montreal prevails right up to management

Huet as #1, hmmmm, not sure about that one. I can agree that Theo is inconsistent at best this year and unless he turns it around we are in BIG trouble. However, if we get rid of him we would need to have a plan, i.e. are Price or Danis ready to be a starter in the next couple of years or do we think we can get Luongo in 2007.
Living in New England, I get to watch all the Habs games on NHL Center Ice, but other than from this board and an occasional glance at the Gazette, I don't get all the media dirt you Montrealers have access to. When items like this are posted, ie Gainey questioning Theo's equipment and Theo getting defensive about it, it just makes me want to puke.
Theo has the talent to be an elite goalie. He's shown that on more occasions that you or I could name. He's made huge saves for the team, saves that had me out of my chair screaming with glee -- especially when the Habs downed the Bruins as a result.
This year things haven't gone so well for the lad. But I can remember plenty of other goalies who had bad times, even his majesty King Patrick.
Why can't the politics of sports be left out of it? Why can't athletes be left to do what they're paid to do, without all the attendant media crappola? I know that Theo is being paid a Brink's truck full of dough this year, and that he hasn't earned it. But it seems to me that everyone, including the management, the media, and the fans, are all interested in the same thing: getting Theo back on form. Whether we keep him or trade him, everyone needs him to play better -- if only so that we can justify his salary to the team we're trading him to.
Personally, I hope Theo stays in a Hab uniform for 15 years because I think he's got the talent and ability to be the elite goalie he's shown signs of in the past. But if his name is constantly being batted back and forth in the papers for things that have nothing to do with his on-ice performance, it can only hurt everyone.
With Gainey at the helm, and in the charged environment that seems to exist around Theo right now, the upcoming road trip will say a lot about him and his own commitment to improving. If he steals a game or two for us between now and Jan 28, I vote that all of us -- the management, the fans, the media, and anyone else with a big mouth -- get behind this guy like never before. Cheap shots makes headlines, but a little love can go a long way...

Well said,
and while it's easy for us to criticize today's overpaid athletes for their lack of effort, behaviour, lack of focus or whatever, consider that in the "good old days" the media wasn't quite as insane as it is now either. I imagine even St. Jean Belliveau himself would have been under the microscope and we'd be able to read idiotic, classless, selfish-sounding quotes by him too. Not saying these guys deserve the millions they are getting, but on the other hand it's not really their fault but ours that they get those millions and never learn a thing about real life.
AB, you're going to have to expalin your thoughts as to how Huet is more capable than theo as our starting goalie. This is a guy Los Angelas shipped out because they already have two capable ( 1 to my count ) goalies in Garon and Labarberra. Huet isnt better than those 2, and neither are better than theo ( when theo is on his game)...as of right now..Garon is killing. Huet, Danis or Price are NOT ready for a starting job in the NHL. We let Huet have his 4 games in a row...he did no better than Theo has done this year. Look at the guys numbers and record. I WILL give the fact that Huet played great against ottawa last game...but his first win against them is owed to Kovalev..we all know that. Im honeslty starting to like the Theo for Luongo idea. I still like Theo more, but luongo is massive and hard to beat ...even if he sucks on some nights...cuz he is just that big!! If the money is right, do it....especially with how theo is playing right now..

Gotta disagree AB..........there's not a player alive that did'nt have to go thru a slump once in awhile. I think Theo and Bob are on the same page and we will soon see results. I'll be at the game on Saturday and I hope Theo sticks it to the nucks. I too wish we still had Garon but the cards have been played and Theo needs to show Gainey he's our guy...let's hope he can keep the streak alive............nufsed

So true. These guys are clueless wonders when it comes to real life...but WE are the ones chating online about it. Thus creating the marketplace. Funny isn't it...

Sing it Desi... well said man.
And as for Ab... what the hell would make you serioulsy want to make an unproven #2 goalie the go-to guy in Montreal? Get real man... Theo is an awesome goalie and any team in the league would be glad to have him.
In a sick way I can't wait for the day that you get your wish and we trade him only to watch him succeed for another team.

Geez Normie - ya scared me for a second! I had to look twice at the date this was posted, 'cause I thought I was supposed to be in Vancouver for a game today!
For those of you who bashed AB on this one have to admit, the prediction wasn't that off! Now it's just wait and see what happens with Theo!
Actually, no one bashed you on this post AB. I believe people think that Huet is a good backup, not a #1. I'm not sure you can rush to crown him #1, even though he's played a great 10 games. We've seen a bunch of goalies have a great 20 games, see Tim Thomas, etc.... You seem to like putting the pressure on guys after they play a few good games. Take it easy pal. Huet is not the second coming of Roy or Dryden.
AB Habman wrote: John, are you saying I put pressure on a player after a few good games! Exactly, kinda like with Plecs. It's ok though, we all know what you are about.
John, my friend, now your sounding bitter and a little juvenile! That's like saying my mother is uglier than yours! Crazy talk my friend!
You're again trying to turn things around by conveniently bringing Plecs into this rather than admitting I was at least partly right!
I stand by what I said...with this current roster Plecs will be our future first line center!
