1933-34 Blackhawks, Charlie Gardiner, born in Scotland
1937-38 Blackhawks, John Gottselig, born in Russia

Interestingly enough, the only other non-canadian born captain of a Stanley Cup winning team was Derian Hatcher.

Nice bit of research.

I bet both of those guys got Canadian citizenship as soon as the boat landed, and they weren't old enough to walk...  You could also say Owen Nolan is Irish, Olaf Kolzig is South African and Robyn Reghr is Brazilian.

Modano was made captain after Hatcher was traded.

But ... I wonder how many non North American captains there current are. Also, I'm assuming that it was far less common back in the day.

But surely these guys must have moved to Canada as youths?  But technically, they were not North American born, so they would be the correct answer to the trivia question, strictly speaking.
