Another rumor (from the Ottawa Star or Sun, which ever) is that Theo would go to COL, Avisher would go to PIT and MTL would get a 1st rounder and a player from (hopefully that would be PITs first rounder, likely a top 5 pick.) It it's PIT's pick, then we'd get a player from COL. What you all think of this nugget?

I expected that one from Pablo Honey, barry.
This board is going to the dogs..................

I heard a manifestation of this one...it involves Tanguay coming to the Habs. I don't think I would want him anyhow - another soft (I'll say it...Francophone) playmaker.

Was something edited out? I'm confused...
also, Tanguay's an awesome player, but without a tough surroundings, he's not going to have a chance to shine

Racist comments aside (and the fact that this is just a rumour) Tanguay would make a great addition. You say he is a soft play maker, he already has 19 goals this year and is a plus 7. In the last two years that we had NHL hockey, he had 51 goals, 146 points and was plus 30 in 03-04 and plus 34 in 02-03. He's only 26 and will probably get better with time in the league. Personally, the only downside to him that I can see is that his contract runs out this year (1 year deal), so the Habs would run the risk of not getting him back next year.

Actually "Francophone" not a race. If you are going to accuse me of using "racist comments" at least use the right terminology. Ethnocentric may have been better.
That aside, I am just saying that they have this policy carrying Francophone's just to appease the Francophone fans. Tanguay is a hell of an offensive player, but he's not going into the corner's and he's not going to lay guys out or striking fear into the hearts of defenseman. All I am saying is he isn't the piece of the puzzle that we need...another undersized floater with great good hands.

Hmmmm.... Mario Lemieux, a francophone, vs Gretzky.... I know who I'd rather not meet up with in a dark alley, and who I'd trust to cater my kid's birthday party

This is one policy that is making it hard for Montreal to compete. They should forget what the "fans" require and build a winning team with the best players available, regardless of their mother toungue. Forget a bilingual coach, GM and all that, the media can translate for themselves. Real fans don't care if their captain is a Quebecer or a Finn as long as he has passion and plays the game to his max every game.

Absolutely! I don't think Bob plays that game. I think he is going to do what it takes to win...as can be seen by unceremoniously canning the coach. Not ot say they can't carry Francophone players, but they don't need to go out of their way to obtain them.

You're right, I just wish that those delusional fans would forget the idea of the team as "The Flying Frenchmen" Never was an accurate moniker anyway...

Note that it was ediited by Figaro, not me. The words deleted, however, were barry's, not mine. A reference to a "three-way" - let your mind wander.............
