I know there have been many kind words here on the site about Claude Julien and the job he did for the Habs. I thought it would be appropriate for anyone who wants to thank Claude to do so in one place. I know that he'll see the posts and appreciate them. Here's what I'd like to tell him:
Dear Claude, I'm sorry to see you go. You handled your job with grace and dedication, despite having to operate under the glaring media spotlight in Montreal. The team may have overachieved early in the season and underachieved later on, but I believe you did your best every night. Too bad the playrs didn't give you their best every night.
Wherever you end up and whatever you end up doing, I know you'll do well. I just hope the people you're working with work as hard as you do. A coach can instruct, inspire, rant, rave, and lead by example. But he can't get on the ice and score goals (or stop them). Though I'm sure that if you could have, you would have!
Maybe the players on the 2005-6 Canadiens team will learn from the experience of seeing you go. I hope they do, because I love the Habs and want them to win. But beyond that, I would also hate for your firing to be in vain.
Thanks Desi- I am going to ask Claude to have a look on this site and read these when the dust settles a bit. As for my comments:
Claude- I think that the bottom line is that you handled yourself with grace and dignity and represented the team I love so much with class. For that I thank you. I know from our talk after the firing that you handled that in the same way you handled coaching. You bit your tongue and handled it with class. I guess that is how I would like you to be remembered as a coach in Montreal The fact that you did not call out players and you took alot of heat off of them I am hoping, in the long run, will be remembered by these guys.
It is unfortunate that alot of things that went on people will never know about however I respect the fact that you will resurface elsewhere and do not want to burn any bridges. Unlike alot of the players you coached, you have always accepted responsibility for losses and that says alot about your character. But as you told me yesterday, it was a good run and you will start another one elsewhere when the time is right.
I know you have been working 20 hour days lately so take some time with Diedra and enjoy your time off Try not to watch any hockey for awhile cause I know it drives you nust when you cant take part lol. And get the clubs shined up because we are gonna be out there chasing that silly white thing before you know it. I for one want to thank you. You had a winning record and you gave us all a playoff upset to get excited over. Hold your bald head high buddy. You are a class act and many of todays players and coaches should take their cue from you.

I would just tell Claude that he was a scapegoat for a bunch of babies in a Habs uniform. They will not take responsibility for their bad play. Claude, although I am a habs fan first and foremost, I would love to see you south of the border. Good luck and I can predict one thing. We will have to contend with Claude in the future when he comes back to the Bell Center as a coach for another team. I wish him all the luck in the world. Too bad BG is classless God Bless
You and I have many things in common. We are both non-Quebecois French-Canadians who have recently left stressful employment situations. Both of us got the dirty end of the stick and do not deserve our fate. I have to state that I did not handle my situation with the class and aplomb you have exhibited in your case.
But you can't keep good people down. I will land on my feet, and I have zero doubt you will as well, and soon. Some deserving team will get your services very soon, and it will be our loss.
I wish you and your family all the best. Take some time to be with them and to clear your head. You have earned it.
Bonne chance, mon ami.
