1) Ok, I'm sure I'll take some heat for this, but I think it is about time that the Habs abandon their French Canadian mandate.  It's not that there are no great Quebec-born players in the NHL because there are numerous (we just don't have any of them!!!).  These guys just seem terribly undersized.  It's not the 1950's here and the Canadiens don't have exclusive rights to the best Francophone players anymore.


2) Lets get some Alberta/Sask./Man. farm boys with some size and grit because we are severely lacking in both of those catagories.  Dagenais WAS big but zero heart.  Begin and Koivu (and more recently Bulis) are the only guys who play with emotion.


3) Here's who I would protect and keep on the roster. I would entertain trades wth any of the remaining players...


Koivu, Kovalev, Ryder, Zednik, Markov, Bulis, Higgins, Bouillon, Perezhogin, Kostisyn, Begin, Huet (based on his recent stellar play), Dandenault, and at times I might even include Rivet on this list.


As for the rest: Bonk (do I even need to explain this one?), Souray (2 seasons ago was a HUGE fluke. Terrible defensively), Sundstrum (neither bad/nor good, but doesn't do a hell of a lot does he?), Ribeiro (can he be any less inspired and lazy?  Take a shot once in a while and it might go in), Theodore (just not winning us any games, too many soft goals and would command a lot in return for a trade)...and the list goes on.


My moves?


Trade Theo straight up. Colorado or Vancouver would deal.


Package Souray/Ribs.


Bonk - send him to Hamilton.


I'm sure you can argue for most guys, but this is just my opinion.  This team used to outwork and outshoot every one, now they are just brutal all around.  Even that win against the Sens was lucky if they didn't light-up Emery in the 1st and Huet stand on his head. The bottom line is they need to shake-up the line-up because they are sliding down the standings faster than the Penguins.

First off, I would add Plakanec to the list of keepers (forgot about him...he has been out of the line-up as of late).


And yes, we probably will get ripped off in typical modern Hab fashion (see every move in the last 10 years except for the Zednik deal with the Caps).  That is the paradox of carrying extra-baggage and trying to unload it as soon as the boat starts to sink.


However, I still believe that Theo and/or the Souray/Ribs package would net us a decent player or two.  You just need to find a team as desperate to deal AND in the Western conference (ie. Vancouver).


And for the record, I feel and/or my opinion is rants are the most enjoyable thing on this board!!!  You should be able to express your emotions and feelings for a team you love, regardless if they are negative, positive or simple observations.

French Canadian 'Mandate' ? what an understatement - I get the feeling the FLQ is managing the team half the time !?

The market for a 'proven' goaltender is as hot as the part of the bench where Theodore's a** has been parked the last two games. He HAS, however, carried this team on his back a couple times in the playoffs and thus, one of the Cup pretenders (Avs, 'Nucks, Flyers..etc) will buck up for him.
Something huge is brewing here folks, and I pray it involves expiditing 'Houray (for being so terrible..) Souray' and Michelle Ribeiro to Dorval airport ASAP.

But generally, the softness/lack of heart on this team is disgusting. Bonk ? yikes... Dandenault ? Nice crosscheck with 9 minutes left in a 1-0 game, meathead... Ribeiro? Hit the weights buddy... and I think Rafael now officially has more shots on goal than you this season...

Bottom line, it's driftwood like this that takes away from a promising core. I enthusiastically agree with 'Newbie's keepers list....

As offensive (opposite of the Habs as of late) as your reply was TheoDoor (great handle!) I would have to say that I more or less agree with you...maybe just not so emphatically.


AND I believe Dorval is now P.E. Trudeau...
