I think we all can agree on one thing on this board. A trade, or trades, is imminent. In fact, Gainey has the team accountant with him in Colorado (better known as your "cap specialist" in today's NHL) today. My question to you, is who do you feel has gained in trade value, lost trade value, or stayed the same since the season started this year?
Lost Value
Theo, Ribiero, Zednick, Koivu (simply because he has been hurt again and GM's look at that), Dagenais, Souray, Perezhogin, Bonk, Begin
Gained Value
Markov, Rivet, Ryder, Higgins, Bulis, Plekanecs (if he stayed healthy)
One person that lost some value for sure is your grade school spelling teacher! I'm J/K, but for the record: Ribeiro, Boullion, Zednik, Plekanec, Danis I think your analysis is bang on. The only player I would question is Begin 'losing value'.
Nahhh..I leave that up to Grammerman to look after. The reason I put Begin as losing trade value is due to his penchant for taking stupid penalties this year. To me, he would waver between losing value and staying the same. But I do not think he has gained trade value in any way.

Just for the record, "losing value" should, in your sentence, have double quotation marks, save the single quotation marks for quotes within other quotes ... J/K

He he he..glad you caught that. I purposely used the old oxy moron that Nilsey (aka Grammerman) loves so much.

A good look at things, Barry. I'd question whether Perez has lost anything, though. Prior to this season he wasn't that much of a known entity and he's done some good work with the little ice time he's had I think.
As for a trade, I would've guessed that BG would be after a strong defenseman who can contribute offensively and would pony up some young talent for it. But now that I know that the legal beancounter is accompanying BG out west, I'm not so sure.
Which Habs player would another team really want?
Theo? That would be a big gamble the way he's been playing.
Koivu? Too many injuries to take a chance on Captain K -- though it has been a few years since the Habs traded away their captain so maybe it's time to pull that move again.
Kovalev? Maybe, but he's been pretty invisible since coming back from his time out. Still, there's no doubt about his talent and abilities.
No, the guys other teams are probably after are precisely the guys we wouldn't want to trade -- the younger players who are our future. But these are the guys BG would have to trade to get anyone worth having:
Ryder Markov Komisarek Higgins
Personally, I'd rather see a veteran go, even a good one, than lose any of these guys who represent the team's future. And it's too bad Ribeiro isn't on the above list. Before this season,, he would've been. And we could've dealt him to someone and gotten something in return. Now, a GM would be pretty foolhardy to trade anything of value for Ribs.
I just hope that BG doesn't trade away Ryder. I know he hasn't really stepped up yet this year, but I have a feeling that he's going to in a big way -- and for many years to come. Trade him, and he will come back to haunt us just as Hab-killer John LeClair always did...

Desi- the reason I feel that perez has lost a bit of trade value is because other GM's may get the perception that, because he did not play much and got sent back down, that he is not as good as they thought he may be. However, this is a very short term thing and can be remedied iif he comes back up and plays a larger role with the team. Believe it or not, I still feel that Mike Ribiero and Theodore have trave value. Both Ribs and Theo are VERY talented hockey players and every GM in the league knows that. It is not the talent that is under question with these 2. It is the heart and where their heads are right now. Teams will look at that talent and past accomplishments and take a chance that a change of scenery will bring it back.

...........my guess for trade bait is Perezhogin , Begin because we similiar players in the sytem ...I also believe that Theo really could be on the move ....I know most people discount this but if Thorton was traded well why not Theodore ..!!!

That would be Grammarman, Barr-o. And I don't know about oxy, but you have the rest of it covered.

Disagree on Markov; he was already very highly regarded, and is playing up to par. Ditto on Rivet - in fact he was playing below par early in the year, but has elevated his game.
No Change Sundstrom, Boillon, Kovalev,Komisarek, Dannis/Huet, Murray, Streit
I would say Komisarek has decreased in value; I don't see much in him these days.
Good post, barry.

"Anything is only worth what someone else is willing to pay!!!"
...having stated that, Barry33 missed a category COMPLETELY! What about the "would GREATLY benefit from a change of venue" category (as in, Breezer)???
And-o thinks that guys like Ribeiro and Zednik might thrive playing on another team!
Ribero...Thrive... yes, win no; 80 points... yes, miss the playoffs... yes; Can actually get away with wearing a gangsta crew suit and top hat in Montreal without getting the snot beat out of him by someone at a bar...yes, in any other city...NO!
And-o has a real pearl for Barry33... "Anything is only worth what someone else is willing to pay!!!" ...having stated that, Barry33 missed a category COMPLETELY! And-O- Barry agrees that there is no question that both Zednick and even the Gangsta can still help another team. Barry also feels that Theo is a good goaltender talent wise that desperately needs a fresh start someplace free of the distractions that tend to run rampant in Montreal (ie short skirts and demanding fans)
Barry feels that Theo has looked more confused than a starving baby in a topless bar and needs a change of scenery to refocus and get back on track.

Just saw Gilette in Colorado too. maybe something will happen on this trip. What ever happens i hope its not a fcalsh in the pan that only lasts for a few games and then its back to business as usual. We need a trade that strengthens the D big time. I guess another winger or canter.
