What this team needs....
Permalink Closed

Alrighty, so lets get to it. We are ALL tired of seeing our team drop farther and farther down the standing s and at this rate we'll be fighting to stay out of the basement. This is, in my opinion, what this team needs.

Fisrt off Consistant Goaltending!!!! Theodore hasnt played a weeks worth of that 5 million ALL YEAR. Has 0 shut outs, and the basement end of the GAA and SV% stats. IF this team is going to inprove it has to start with him not only making key saves at key times, but also not letting in weak goals at random. The guy is paid to stop the puck. We ALL know he is capable of doing it so it is definately possible he can! Huet and Danis are in no better position to take the #1 spot either. We saw that they can play one good game and then 3-4 crap games. Reference to Huets 4 straight games and his 1-3 record during that time.

Strong Defense!!!!- These guys are WAY to soft on the opponents offense and are letting them waltz in and take our defensive zone with ease. Even Boullion has been soft of late. Souray seems to have that means side back but he cant be on the ice for the whole 60 mins. As good a defensive and offensive player MArkov is....he too should try to throw his body around more. Also, Part of being a defensman is the DEFEND YOUR ZONE. A goalie WILL give out rebounds and its the defensmans job to clear them out of harms way and move the puck out. We havent been able to do that and that isnt because there is a hulking man standing in front of the net that we cant move, its simply because no one is doing their job. Take your player, stick with him and FOR GOD SAKES!!! BLOCK SOME SHOTS!!!!

OFFENSE!!!!!! This is a puck...that is a net....you want to put the puck in there!!! ANY QUESTIONS?!?!?! No one is exempt from this. Koivu, Kovalev, Ribeiro, Ryder, Zednik...These guys are paid to put the puck in the net and Ryder and Zednik ( believe it or not ) are the only ones so far with more than 10 goals. UNACCEPTABLE!!! Also....whatever happened to strong forechecking....believe me it works and other teams HATE IT. It puts unwanted pressure on their defensemen and eventually they will cough up the puck and give the other team a scoring chance...wether that be a breakaway or odd man rush...it helps ALOT. Begin, Sundstrom, Higgins, Murray, these guys have to be doing this!!! Dagenais....this guy is pointless on our team. We cant afford to carry around a guy just because he happens to score in the shootout and occasionally scores in games...i think 5 goals so far. Not worth it. The guy is slow, doesnt hit, takes dumb penalties and just...isnt producing. Get rid of him!! Bonk, again last night took dumb penalties and wasnt very impressive, im giving him the rust factor for THIS GAME ONLY. And thats being WAAAY MORE than generous!

COAHCING- These guys arent there for nothing. If you are told to do something by your coach, you better do it, and im glad CJ has finally sent the no one is safe message. ID LOVE to see Saku Kovalev and Zednik benched next game. For what was suppose to be our "top line" a -5 and 2 shots on goal is pathetic. They are professionals and they wouldnt hold a grudge, especially Saku....IM sure he would whip himself first and then the rest of the group into gear. Just like a captain is suppose to.

This whole team needs to smarten up and get their game back together. Enough closed door meetings, enough losses to sub .500 teams, enough excuses. JUST WIN. Do whatever it takes ( means necessary ) and do what your paid to do. If this we're any other job...half this team would be fired....

Good post Johab.  I would feel (and want to feel!) more sure that Theo will recover, but with his comments last night, I doubt he will.  It seems that Theo has decided the responsibility of last night's debacle rests on the team in front of him because he says they allowed numerous breekaways and 2on1s and allowed the Pens to put great shots behind him.  He doesn't believe any of the goals were soft.  I wonder if there would be any chance of a Theo and Bonk or Ribs for Fedorov and Denis?  Two struggling stars and two struggling would be stars for each other.  Just a thought, but if we were to try and trade Theo, there would be few, if any teams that we could trade with, unless we picked up one of their albatross players, as well.  Yes, Theo is becoming our albatross and there is nothing scarier to a team than that, I would think.

Theodore's remarks concerning his goaltending performance against Pittsburgh is a perfect illustration of the problems the Habs face. The supposed mvp of the team does not take responsibility for his anemic performance. It seems no one on the team takes responsibility for poor play and a lack of heart. Theodore had his carear year back in '01 and his performance since then has continued to slowly detoriate. He is no longer close to being an elite goalie.
The problems the Habs have had for years are resurfacing in abundance during this current losing streak. A debatable work ethic,  lack of size and toughness, lack of balanced scoring , a soft defence that is largely ineffectual at both ends of the ice. And a very over  rated goalie.  There were many in the organization that felt Garon could be Theodore's equal, on the basis of play this year they were wrong, Garon is superior.
