Zednik-Koivu-Kovalev reunited; Habs make roster moves
Permalink Closed

The Canadiens will re-unite the Zednik-Koivu-Kovalev line for Pittsburgh game.

Also, Alexander Perezhogin has been sent to Hamilton.

And the following have been recalled from Hamilton:

  • Jean-Philippe Cote (D)

  • Andrei Kostitsyn (F)

  • Jonathan Ferland (F)

Perez needed to go back for sure before his confidence is totally demolished! He has skill and just needs to work on defense. In saying that, I hope they don't turn him into another Bulis but rather give him the freedom to use his assets!

Ab- I truly believe that Perez belongs in Hamilton right now where he can work on his defensive game (which trust me,.needs a TON of work) and get a ton of ice time. Many will say why him and why not useless deadwood like Ribero and Dags. One word answer- contracts. Gainey can send Perez down and not lose him to waivers. If he sends Ribieoro down or Dagenais, he has 2 problems. 1) He may lose them to waivers (but I am doubtful any GM in the league will pick them up) and we do not even get the puck bag for them or 2) They clear waivers and Gillette has to pay the big salary (both are on one way contracts) to have them ride the bus in Hamilton. With Koivu back and Bonk and Pleks on the doorstep, Perez had to go down. That was why he was not being played the last 3 weeks. But he is part of the Habs future and if Gainey is able to offload some of the deadwood, look for him to be back up and play a bigger role.

It will mark the return of Perezhogin in the AHL since the vicious stick-swinging incident back in 2004.  Last season, Perezhogin was suspended for the entire AHL season, and elected to play in Russia instead.

I like the idea of bringing some bigger bodies into the lineup. Hopefully they can be used to clear up some ice for the more skilled guys.

We're better off with big, useless bodies than small and scared useless bodies (I was gonna use the Laffs' roster of big, useless guys as an example, but decided against it -- they still and will always suck!)

This is like making a trade without actualy making a trade. These guys need to get going tonight. I hope the PP picks up. I hope they smash Crosby and crew. Sorry for Sid lovers, but I feel we need a very strong showing tonight. We have a tough month coming up not to mention a long road trip again. This wil be the turning point. Lets send Scooby and Sid the Kid packing  I will predict we take this one 7-2.They will be playing Thibeault again I beleive I know its crazy, but its my prediction  7-2

From what I heard on the game last night and the radio this morning, they (Pens) are hoping that T-Bo will make for a decent goaltender and send Fleury back down to Wilkes-Barre to not have to pay him (Fleury) the NHL money on his contract.  I think 25 games up with the big club is where his bonus kicks in.

P.S.  davidb: who's "scobby"?
