Yesterday while out running some errands in Mississauga (West of Toronto) I was driving through a small strip plaza, who do I see walking out of one of the stores to his vehicle but Johnny Bower so I drove up to him and rolled down my car window and said "Hey Johnny, How's it going?" He responds great - How's it going for you - I say great and then continued on my way. The way he responded to my greeting it was if I was a long time friend but JB is like this to everyone.
The first time I saw JB was in a Mississauga Walmart and I saw this older gent dressed up in all Maple Leaf garb - it was like a walking advertisement (dressed in Leafs track pants-baseball cap-warmup jacket) but I only had a back view but when he turned around I realized who he was and therefore why he was dressed like that - Don Cherry dresses the same way when he goes to local hockey rinks to watch minor hockey although not in Leaf stuff - CHL (junior hockey)
The second time I saw him and met him was at a bar seven years ago in Grimsby, Ont. west of Hamilton - He was doing a public appearance with Liam Maguire (self professed Hockey trivia expert but he is very good it is very hard to stump Liam with a question - He helped the Hockey Hall of Fame set up their trivia challenge). So Johnny was selling autographed photos for five bucks so I purchased one but unfortunately JB was not using a Sharpie pen and now all I have is the photo with no autograph as the ink on the photo dried out and disappeared.
Anyways Johnny Bower is a great guy and if you have a chance to meet him don't turn down the opportunity.....
You know, even though we are goalies from a different era, Johnny was my idol when I was a kid. My Dad told me alot about him. And from everything I have heard he is a class act. By the way habs93 your name reminds me of something I saw the other day here. A New Brunswick license plate with "LEAFS67" on it. How pathetic is that?hehe.

Hi barry33 - Happy New Year and Good Health/Good Cheer to you & your loved ones.
Actually about 7 or 8 years ago I was considering Ontario car vanity plates with habs93 on them but I thought about it and figured living in the Toronto area I was asking for trouble with bitter leaf fans either them taking off my car or doing something to my car after they figured out what habs93 meant.
You still hear Leaf fans now complaining about the non call of Gretzky high sticking Gilmour in game 6 of 93 in LA but due to selective memory they forget the non call on Gilmour when he head butted Marty McSlorley (where was Wendel?) and that non call by Kerry Fraser therefore Gilmour would not have been around for the high stick because head butting is a match penalty.
The Leafs fans also feel it was a gimme over The Habs in the final (if they got that far) but they also forget that they played 21 games in 42 days due to the fact their first 3 series all went 7 games and they were a very tired team whereas the Habs all 3 series ended early and never left their time zone (Quebec-Buffalo-Islanders) - Leafs went to Detroit-St Louis-LA.
Such is the life of a Leaf fan when their last Stanley Cup victory all the pictures were still taken in Black & White......

Habs93 you are so right, living in enemy territory also I hear about that Non call on Gretzky all the time. Then i bring up the head butt and they say what head butt. If the Laffs did make it to finals, in my opnion they would of lost. If Gretzky (agruably the best player ever) Couldn't beat Roy, what is to say the Laffs would of. Roy was in a zone and I don't think anyone was going too beat him. When he winked at Sundstrom, it was classic.
The Black and white comment is one I use often, and it must be hard not being alive to see your team win the Stanley Cup, As i'm 33 and most of my friends weren't around in 1967.
