Koivu and Bonk taking time

PAT HICKEY, The GazettePublished: Thursday, December 29, 2005

The Canadiens are keeping their fingers crossed, but there's no reason to believe centres Saku Koivu or Radek Bonk will be back in the lineup during the team's current road trip.

Both players were expected to join their teammates for the morning skate yesterday, but instead skated on their own after their teammates left the ice.

Koivu said he felt good and that he expected to participate in a full practice this morning, but the fact he and Bonk haven't seen any contact would indicate they're not ready, and that means the Canadiens continue to be thin down the middle.

Komisarek on the outs: Mike Komisarek, who has one assist and is minus-8 through 29 games this season, had the best seat in the house last night. He was dressed, but spent the entire game on the bench. The beneficiary of Komisarek's misfortune was Mark Streit, who played a regular shift and assisted on a power-play effort that snapped a 2-2 tie early in the third period.

Meanwhile, Craig Rivet was in the lineup and played a regular shift after being listed as questionable. He was suffering from the flu and was unable to participate in the morning skate.

I cannot believe Kovy and Saks are still considering playing in the olympics while they are still nursing injuries  it really pisses me off.

If And-o were paying these two guys, they wouldn't see action until MY doctors (note the 's') cleared them!

Although this past stretch of 20'ish games has been hard to handle, getting these two guys healthy (perhaps when coupled with a smart trade or two) could be the start of something special for the Canadiens.

And-o firmly believes that Radek Bonk has something substantial to add to this roster...and Saku Koivu clearly was heading for much more serious injury problems before this apparent groin muscle gave out - and he sure is missed!  Both are needed HEALTHY!

...it bugs me though that both Koivu's and Bonk's problem was let persist until it cost the team their services for an extended period of time!  And-o says...when your guys start to breakdown, you DO NOT punch the accelerator to the floor (so to speak)!!!

If I was GM there would be NO WAY that Saks would be allowed to go to the Olympics. He misses half the year, is obviously tired, yet he will go prancing off and play some pretty intense hockey in Italy. It makes absolutely zero sense. I realize that Montreal probably does not have the authority to do that, but I feel it is incumbant upon Saku to place his priorities where they belong. I can tell you one thing. If he goes there and comes back hurt again, I will not be impressed.

Conspiratory Thoughts,Is Koivu trying to protect his position on finland,to play with his big little brother,by not returning to the habs lineup  until  just before the olympics,as to not be injured and forced out of finlands lineup
