These are not neccessarily habs related, but there have been some things I have seen lately that bother me in the NHL. So please indulge me and allow me to vent:



  1. What is it with players, every time they score, sitting on the bench and immediately looking up at the scoreboard to watch the replay of their goal?!??? Are they THAT egotistical that they cannot wait until they get home to watch it on Sports Desk to see how pretty it looked? I justthink it looks plain silly. You are in the middle of a game and you sit there admiring your replay.

  2. Darcy Tucker gets a 2500.00 fine for beating a guy in the face with his own helmet. No suspension. Colin Campbell says that the match penalty was enough time missed. Nice Colin. Now I get to deal with kids beating each other in the heads with hockey helmets. No wonder there is so much trouble discipline wise in minor hockey. Look at the example being set!Is it just me or does this guy just haul things out of the air when it comes to discipline? There is no consistency to what he does whatsoever. Tucker had teh gall to celebrate and laugh at the guy and show him that he cut him. Duhhh Darcy I can cut someone if I beat them in the head with a hard piece of plastic too. Real tough guy you are. He has never had an once of class and never will. He is a complete idiot.

  3. Watching the Leafs game tonite. Why has the league not caught on to Bryan McCabe on the power play. He just stands inside the blueline with his stick cocked waiting for the one timer. Yet the opposition seems to allow it. He may as well holler out "watch me I am gonna wind up and blast it"

  4. The diving in the league is pathetic now. Gust of wiond and the guy falls down and up goes the arm. What is more pathetic is the old "unsportsmanlike conduct for diving" as well as the hooking call to the other guy penalty. If it is a dive then how was it a hook and vice versa. Maybe Jay can explain that one. It is laughable.

  5. Bob Cole and Harry Neale- Please take off your suits and put a Leafs jersey on and get it over with. Only these two idiots can make Tie Dummy sound like a sniper

  6. I am not a fan of two refs. They are constantly getting in the way. The ice is small enough now with teh size of the players. How many times do you see the ref getting n the way of a player or the puck now?

i agree with all of those   but the first one might have a reason.  i know if i scored i would watch the replay too   not cuz i wanna see how good i was   but maybe too watch and see if i can notice any other weaknesses that i can exploit the next time im on the ice.   just a thought.  but with some of the players these days  it probably is the ego.

id have to disagree with the 1st one barry. I know id LOVE to see my work in net more often...like if i were to make a nice save it would be awesome to be able to watch it from another angle than my own view. Its not really a Ego thing...its natural...Humans admire their good work and its exciting to see yourself do something good. Especially score a goal or make a nice save. Be honest Barry...if you scored a highlight real goal...would you not watch it?

Actually No I would not or could not watch it. I woudl be busy getting CPR from the paramedics.

I think that was a typo - Johab meant to say "if you allowed a highlight reel goal...."

I think looking at a replay after scoring is natural.  And you can't tell me that the opposing team isn't looking either.   There are many reasons to peek, not the least of which is it is a great coaching tool.  Plus, in the heat of the moment, it's cool.  Heck, the 4000-22000 spectators are looking, so it can't be bad.


I like the 2 ref system.  I think it is part of the reason there is less useless fighting (as opposed to the usefull stuff where a Koivu punches a Chara!)


All the rest of the thing you said were how much you hate the Maple Leaves.  Oh and diving.  Wait, same thing.  I agree on all that.

barry I agree with everything you posted. The only thing I would add is I am sick and tired of a player being bumped ever so slightly then he raises his hands as if to say  come on ref  that was a penalty
