Maybe I'm not remembering correctly, but has there been a worse performing (I'm not talking about the current record), shallower, less disciplined team in recent years?
I'm all for a steady, patient building of the team, something I keep advocating, but no building's going on now, and what's left is a lack of care that's going to spread throughout the organization and poison any hope we have to get a Cup back in Cupville within our lifetime..
So, without further pause, I award my first annual Rusty Yugo award to tonight's lame, undermanned, underwhelming performance.
We are about to set a new franchise record for most consecutive road losses. I think the last time we lost so many was in 1926.
It comes down to lack of leadership in the dressingroom and perhaps behind the bench and certainly upstairs. You hear the term often from coaches that players "need to be willing to pay the price" to win. These guys are not paying the price. And when you are left with having to play the likes of Begin and Ribiero at center for 30 minutes a game you are never going to get a good result. Bench Ribs? Sure. Then you can play Streit at center for 30 minutes. The first move I would make is to tell Latendresse to head to Montreal and get an apartment just as soon as the World Juniors are over. There is a definate problem in that dressingroom.
