He acts the part, he's got the respect. He's in it to win, and for the long haul.

I think we should give it to Bonk, I thought he was our saviour. Just kidding.

Nuttin against Kovy, but he is known to show up for some games and be a "no-show" for others. Take last night for example, he was outclassed by Ovechkin. He ups his game for the big ones but a captain he is not.

Practically every player in the league is going to be overshadowed by Ovechkin, so what's the point?

C-R-A-Z-Y!! And-o you really should settle your demons with that little Finnish guy that once pushed you around...That is what happened correct?

Kovalev is great but has never in his career displayed leadership. Maybe he has matured and now wants to win, but to base it one 1/4 of a season. Come on.

I've heard some crazy stuff on this board....but this one tops them all....Give the C to Kovalev??? PLEASE tell me what makes him C material. Yes he has some leader ship, and influence a game by himself and is very skilled, but when compared to Koivu....i dont even think theres a chance. Koivu is the leader, heart and soul of this team, he is ALWAYS playing his heart out for this team, he RARELY takes stupid penalties...something Kovalev does almost every night....even in the game against ottawa...Koivu is great defesively, and offensively and his isnt afraid to stick up for his team. Koivu is captain and has been for 9 years for a reason guys. The C isnt going anywhere....and wont be unless Koivu is traded or lost to Free Agency....which i dont see happening either. Really, what good would giving Kovalev the C do for our team?

I did not mean to open a can of worms here but looks like I did. All I am saying is that we need Koivu healthy. Period. We are terribly weak at the center ice position and him being out compounds it. I am happy to read that Kovy flew into Begin last night and is showing leadership in Saks' absence. We need that. Do I  stand by my contention that Gainey did not want to give Koivu a long term contract because of his history of injuries? I certainly do. That is not a knock against the Finnish Smurf. I love the guy. It is just fact and good business. Last week I had to hire a new sales rep. It came down to 2 guys. One guy was alot more qualified but I called his referances and the guy missed like 2 weeks a year due to illness. I hired the other guy.

Why does saying that Saks is out a lot constitute us hating him, or wanting him gone? All I'm saying is, that in the absence of a healthy Saku, who the hell else on the team has the cahones? Rivet? Begin? Ryder? Markov? Theo? Ribs? Come on, think about it. None of them stepped up and with ample opportunity to do so.

Kovalev is about as far from my ideal of a "C" as possible, I saw enough Rangers games to realize that. but you work with what you've got, and I have a feeling we're going to be seeing precious little of Saku this year, so we need a temporary fix.

Sorry for treading on the sacred cow, but someone has to think of a backup plan.

Funny, he is a rookie and Kovy is a seasoned veteran plus you want him to be captain. Shouldn't he be able to overshadow Ovechkin on a very bad team? Kovy did "zero" last night and Ovechkin got his 20th, hmmm. Guess someone was up for the game and someone wasn't.

I don't want him to be captain, but I think we need someone who can stay healthy. As far as "zero" goes, Kovy got mugged against the boards, and was on the puck before he was on his feet. Two games back after a serious knee surgury, that looks pretty good to me

Someone who can stay healthy, hmmm, Ribs can stay healthy, so can Dags, let's make them co-captains.

I feel Kovalev is a different player than when he was a Ranger. When in New York he played uninspired because he hated it there. But as a hab he loves it. However his play is still selfish at times and although he has shown some leadership as of late, it's not enough to move the C from where it is.
