So far, we have Koivu, Bulis, Zednik, and Streit, I believe.  Surely Markov and Kovalev are locks for the Russian team.  Is there anyone else?

You know, I wish we had a Canadian on our team who was both Olympic and All-Star calibre. Not being jingoistic or anything, but it would be nice..

And if you're listening hockey gods, look over our European habs and bring them home with two healthy knees

I think Ratis Ivanas is also representing team Latvia. Update on him, he scored his first goal of the year yesterday.

looking at the teams yesterday, i think its fair to say our greatest challenge will be against Russia...what a team they have. Other news...Kiprusoff backed out of goal for Finland...not sure why...but supposetly its not going over well in the Finnish Media...

I would love to see this guy called up. We are definately missing a phsyical presence. We cannot afford to have Souray or Rivet sitting out 5 minutes or more. Last night Whitt pretty much had his way with our skilled players. Methinks it would be different if Ratis were in the lineup

How about forgetting the olympics and all the players stay home with the Habs and have a mini training camp. Or a re-training camp

I think it's different for Americans and Canadians. Americans don't care about hockey in the Olympics because they know they can't win. Hockey is a Canadian sport so it means a lot to Canadian players to be on the team. Europeans feel the same as well because this is like their Stanley Cup.

I'm not American, but I see plenty of fans down here who go nuts for the Olympics. There wouldn't be over 800 Million dollars worth of advertising and endorsement money plowed into it if they didn't care.

As for quality, if I was coach, the last team I'd want to see in the finals would be the Americans. Take a look at the roster. Lots of cups and stats among them. It's not 1975. They've made leaps and bounds and have a ton of great players coming out of here, and if I'm not mistaken, won the Olympic Gold 3 times in between the times we won it.

The guys on the ice aren't the ones you should have a beef with if you have something against Americans. Very few of them have voting power in Washington, so leave them out of it.

There is no winner or loser in this game my friend. You have your opinion and I have mine. All I have to say to you on this day is Merry Christmas and to all a goodnight.

Sorry JohnM , I love the olympics but I just made the comment about the training camp not because I do not want the olympics to take place but because we all need some work. I hope the players do not sit around for two weeks and get even rustier

Personally I think the whole having pros take part in the Olympics is a joke anyway. It all started with the Americans sending the "dream team" in basketball because their egos could no longer take getting their butts kicked by countries like Italy. This opened the door to hockey. In the same vein, Canada got tired of having it's butt kicked at the Olympics so the NHL started pushing for their players. The Olympics was meant for amateur athletes. Now some supporters of the pros will say "well for all intents and purposes some of the European hockey players are pros". That may be so to an extent. But certainly no hockey player in France is getting paid what these guys are.

Absolutely. And the Soviet Army teams are a thing of the past. Only a handful of NHL calibre Russians still are on non-paid "Army teams". So the field could be even again with amateurs.

What used to be a great showcase for up-and-comers is now just another World Cup
