Here is an insight from Eklund's site on what happend in Jersey:
"Larry is one of the all-time class acts. Larry was getting torn apart by his players not responding and not giving effort. Some coaches are good at the tough love thing, but not Larry. He expected that players at this level should self-motivate, but certain guys were taking short cuts all the time. Whenever he would have bench a guy it would take a piece of him. He takes things on such a personal level. He would feel for the guys. When Scott Stevens was around he could deal out the tough love stuff. There is no one in this group to do that. No one really stepped up to that role. Everyone knows Larry`s personality and Larry was left out to dry. This is a guy that went to Albany during the lockout and worked with the kids there just to help out. And it wasn`t like he was working with future hall of famers.....he loves his players. He feels and understands all the emotions these guys go through. Eventually that positive aspect of his personality was his downfall."
For the first (and probably only time) I agree 110% with what Eklund said. Larry is not the tough love kind of guy. To be honest, neither is Julien but the last couple of weeks he has had to change his approach somewhat. I said it before, coaches are NOT there to motivate at the NHL level. EVERY one of those selfish idiots in the Jersey dressingroom need to look in the mirror because they could now end up with Pat Burns back one day and trust me, Pat does not mind dishing out the tough love,
Ecklund also makes another good point regarding Stevens and he is right. A team functions and gets motivated much better when it is a teamate that they respect and , in Scotty Steven;s case, fear. Every team needs a guy in the room to kick butt. From what I heard from players after the habs game last night, it was Kovalev who took control of the room and did the talking between periods. The results show.

Sorry, my bad, but it was posted on Eklund's site by one of his Jersey contacts. So your record of not agreeing with him stays intact! :) On a side not, I think this is the most I have ever posted in one day... exam time is a slow time for counselors...
