With so many Europeans coming off of semi -serious injuries, does anyone else feel like the 5-colour Olympic rings could become an international noose of doom for our beloved heroes?
Would anyone else be a little miffed if a certain knee-to-knee incident during the Finland-Russia preliminary game could scuttle our playoff hopes?

You have me wondering, too, Brook - if perhaps you had any specific player in mind? The Finnish reference is likely re: Koivu, but are you implying that there are scores to settle, or that you expect some specific Russian player to do something?
Clarify, please!

No, no , no. I'm talking about accidents! I'm hard pressed to think of any NHL'ers who have such a beef against each other that they would use the Olympics as a forum for revenge. But I don't understand the logic of possibly undermining teams in the NHL to satisfy the urge to see the Olympics as another professional cup event. A mix of pros and up-and-comers would be great to see, and wouldn't jeapordize anyones playoff runs

But doesn't the NHL shut down during the Olympics, so no team is hurt (yes, unless a player gets hurt)? I think most players would take the risk of getting hurt over a handful of games in return for wearing their country's colours at the Oympics. And I'd like to think that most NHL teams would be happy to have a few of their stars go over there, play at a high level, and come back all pumped up and ready to lead their NHL team to greater heights.

I for one would love to see Kovalev take the Olympics off and rest his knee and would love to see Koivu just rest period. But I know it will not happen.
