In spite of Pierre McGuire trying to convince the listening audience that Phoenix have not been working hard enough tonite I have to disagree (dare I disagree with the "expert"?!) The habs have simply outworked, outhustled and outplayed them through 2 periods. Julien has instituted a 1-2-2 system tonight that the Coyotes cannot adjust to. In this case, Gretzky's inexperience as a coach is showing because he has not been able to get his team to adjust to the 1-2-2. Phoenix is a very good hockey team who have won like 5out of 6.. So if Montreal continues on to beat them I do not want to hear ONE soul on this board say "well they barely beat a bad hockey team".

well i agree that was one of the best opening periods we have had all year....great intensity, skating hard, hitting, all 4 lines actually played and 3 of the 4 played good(ryder, ribiero, dags looked horrible).....the second period was boring but i won't complain because it was effective.

i am very pleased to see the young guys gettin some ice time for once and it has paid off huge for the habs tonight!!!!!!!!

A few observations. First of all Theo played well. The first goal Kimisarek tipped and as a goalie I can tell you how tough those are to stop. The second one was  a scramble and the dman did not clear the puck. Next, a totally DOMINANT performance by the habs. Their most dominant performance all season. 5 goals against the hottest goalie in the league. And yes Phoenix is a good team with alot of talent. And lastly, And-O, I am glad CJ will be able to sleep tonite. I am sure he did not pack his suitcase to Edmonton for fear of losing tonite. I think it is about time that people gave this guy credit. He CAN coach. Even McGuire said tonite that Julien is a very good coach who has done wonders with the Habs. Funny thing, but the only place I hear this "fire Julien crap" is on this board. "nuff said.

Game over.

Davidb, I'm glad you had the right score, but even gladder that you had the wrong team winning!  Quite possibly the Habs' best game of the year.  Satisfying on all levels.  If Julien tore a strip off them after the last game, then it worked.  If the players motivated themselves, well they should do it more often.

I even heard some intelligent commentary from the TSN clowns.  When one of them, replying to the other's comment that the Habs needed Theodore to play well to win, said sarcastically "What, Christobel Huet and Yann Danis are not the answer?", the other replied "Well, if they are the answer, I don't know what the question could be".  (OK, perhaps not intelligent,  but slightly amusing. )

Everything's a little funnier when we win.

well whatever happened over the last 2 days must have worked because we looked totally different out there tonight....even though at times we lacked agressiveness(although i'm sure it was part of the game plan to lie back after getting a 3 goal lead) we still played with some much needed enthusiasm  and heart

i loved watching pleks out there tonight, what a game he had....murray looked pretty good with koystitsin too when they had their chances

hopefully we will keep on rolling and we might possiblt get koivu and kovy back for thursday

Nil _ I heard that point about Theo too and you know what? They are absolutely right. Without Theo playing well we do not make the playoffs. Gainey made that decision when he traded Garon. Danis or Huet as starters? Uhmmm no. I have said it before. Like it or not we sink or swim with Theo.

The TSN guys are not necessarily non-knowledgeable about the game (enough of a double-negative for you?), they are simply annoying beyond belief.   That jerk McGuire is way beyond annoying, as is James Duthie with his juvenile comments and style.

Poor theo, just cant seem to close the deal on getting a shut-out this year. Komisarek deflected the first one in...fluke goal and that second one went in only because theo lifted his leg when he went to cover the puck. He looked (along with the team ) 100% better tonight. I dont want to hear ANYTHING about theos rebound control during this game. I thought it was great and even the comentators pointed out at one time that he had stopped 6 consecutive shots and didnt give out 1 rebound. An all around ggood performance by our habs. Also nice to see us win by more than 1 goal. HOW ABOUT THAT WINGS AND THRASHERS GAME?!?!?!?

Theo is definetly playing hurt. Watching him try to get up after some saves shows that he is in some pain. Not sure if that will work itself out or he will need some rest somewhere...

I liked that CJ let the kids play tonight and I suggest when Sak and Kovy come back that Pleks takes 2nd line center with Zednik and Perez. Bump Ryder to the first line and have the 4th line of Dags, Ribs and Higgins using Ribs and Dags mostly for the PP.

It's an idea, but Zednik will probably perk up when his linemates are back.

Other than that, exactly right! We need to give Plekanec the second-line job and play Perezhogin more. Whatever happened to Higgins though?

Too bad I missed the game, had to be out tonight . . . but, GREAT to hear the Habs played a solid game!  It appears everyone came to play tonight, is that right?  5 goals is alot for this team minus it's two best players (K&K).  It sounds like Theo was more steady . . . just what Mtl needed before going on the western swing, a solid effort netting 2 important pts.

Real nice to get home, mix a drink, switch the PC on, come here and read through the game thread without knowing the score . . . kind of a feeling of how the game went.  We need to get more people involved in these game threads, they sure are great for people who missed the game and don't know the final outcome . . .

Go Habs!

I hadn't thought about that aspect of our running commentary.  I'll make a point of posting after periods (for games that are on TV in my household, of course) so that you and others who are out get a feel for the game.

NHL.com has a play-by-play report on their site, if you're interested.  It's long but very detailed - every shot, save, penalty, goal, save, faceoff, etc.

Theo was very steady.  He lost his shutout bid on a "knuckler" deflected by Komisarek, and the second goal (when the game was already in the bank) should not have counted as there was a whistle before the puck went in.

It was, in my opinion, the Habs' best performance fo the year.  Everyone played great.  Especially the kids.  Plecanec's goal was a beaut!

By the way, I'm glad you got home before mixing that drink!
