non Habs related: my trip to Buffalo this weekend

I'll be in Buffalo this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) to catch my first ever LIVE NFL game.  Defending Supor Bowl champs NE Patriots play the Bills.

Now, what is there to do in Buffalo on a Saturday night?  Any good sports bars?  if so, where?

Thanks in advance.

Mario

You should head out to Anchors bar,  they are the orignal buffalo wings. i assume it would be busy on game days so you might want to leave early. other that that there is the gallaria mall, and thats pretty much all i know.

Hi Habjo: Good to see you're still around.  How's the fishing this year?  It's lobster season on my side of the Bay.  What are you catching these days?

PS: I've been to Buffalo once, about 15 years ago.  Without peer the ugliest city I've ever seen!

Mario, Jim Kelly has a sports Bar in town and the Anchor bar is amazing for wings. TGIF is a good place just to have a few cocktails and a place  called Cobblestones, not much to look at but the crowd is 25-35 and is where most out of towners go before games (hockey or lacrosse) There is one street just down from the Hyatt hotel that has nothing but bars.  More for young people but the whole street must have close to 15 bars.  Outside of town there is a Hooters, but it also depends on where your staying.  Rich stadium is about 30 minutes outside of Buffalo. Kinda like the Corel centre in Ottawa, have fun, but if your a Pats fan be aware, they are the meanest fans there.

Sydney is actually not looking too bad these days.  They have a lovely park downtown, as well as a waterfront promenade and some new hotels.  Maybe Buffalo has those as well nowadays, but all I remember was slag heaps and boarded-up businesses.

That's good to hear. i was there a decade ago or so, arriving on a rainy night, and even though I've lived in some dodgy areas of NYC, it all looked a little concerning to me

Buffalo, however is, and will always remain a future ghost town, with little chance of recovering. Too much drain, too much trouble to get anyone to invest or move there. Same goes for Rochester now that Kodak is doin' the Titanic

I have never been to NS I have been 6 miles off of Yarmouth NS running from a hurricaine out on georges bank the summer of 79. The old man wouldn't go ashore he new us boys to well it would have been a couple of days before he could round us up the scallywags that we were.We would fish for 21 -25 days go home for 1 and sail again.

And Yarmouth would have been a bad town to let you scallywags loose in!  They'd still be looking for you!  I was working and living in Yarmouth in 1979.  Actually not a bad town; they have their challenges when big employers (textile mill, tin mine, etc.) close down, but they always manage to rebound.   The fisheries is one of the staples over the years, believe it or not.  The junior hockey team sells out their every game - 1,300 fans - and the NY Islanders had their training camp there this year - I went to an intersquad game.  (The Islanders won.)

OK, I see it.  You mention above that you hate the Patriots, so I guess you are adding that you hate the other teams as well. Good for you!   Actually, I like the BoSox, hate the Bruins, and have no opinion on the Celtics or Patriots.
