Theodore not invited to Team Canada
Permalink Closed

It's been announced that Jose Theodore will NOT be one of the three goalies named to Canada's olympic team.

Martin Brodeur, Roberto Luongo, and Curtus Joseph will.

this might also take some preasure off him   now Theo can focus on the team and only the team and not worry about the olympics.

Personally I question inviting Luongo this year. He has not impressed me and from what I understand he has been pretty average in Florida this year. I would have given serious consideration to the 2 Manny's (Fernandez and Legacy). I think Luongo is in on past laurels. As for Joseph, good for him. Detroit basically threw him aside for Hasek and to give Cujo credit, he has revitalized his career in Phoenix. He deserves to be on team Canada.

I agree, Barry, I've seen some dodgy play out of Luongo this year.

And thanks for mentioning the two Manny's. I saw Legace playing at an Orlando Solar Bears game and wondered what the hell he was doing there (asked the same about myself!) And the other Manny never gets his due for all his great play, even when the D he's lumped with are not so hot.

Besides, with Brodeur and Cujo you don't really need to worry that much about the 3rd guy

Honestly, i feel if starting goalies were decided from this years play. Joseph would start. Neither Brodeur or Luongo have been even close to stellar, but they arent gonna ditch the two guys who got them goal in 2002. Theo was on the short end of the straw. Not necessarily a bad thing. Joseph is playing really well.

Certainly no shocker there, although I'm guessing that Barry33 could back-up Johab for Team Canada in Turin and STILL win at least a bronze medal (what a defense!!!)

.....so, does it really matter who goes to Italy???

.....And-o doesn't get too pumped about Olympic hockey considering that only 6 teams could possibly win a medal in mens hockey (Can, US, Swe, Fin, Cze, Rus).

And-o can only think of one other Olympic sport with a 50/50 (or better) shot at a medal - woman's hockey!!!

Why not just have a round robin with the BIG SIX teams (BIG TWO for the ladies) and get on with the real Olympic games???????

BOOOOORRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!

Too bad...because the Olympics are supposed to be for amateurs...THAT was when hockey was an exciting Olympic sport!!!

Curtis Joseph?? c'mon, I know he's on the rebound, but...

Roberto Luongo...all right maybe

Martin Brodeur? 4 goals let in on 11 shots so far tonight. Tells the story of his season.

Not sure I'd pick Theodore either. Truth is, not a lot of Canadian goalies having good seasons.

What about Legace? No experience though.

no disrespect and-o but olympic hockey to me means the best of the best, so if 6 teams are the only ones good enough to win medals, so be it.....as well as with the players, every other sport is represented with the best so why not hockey.  i find the round robin games for the most part to be a little boring too but watching canada's elite against the best from other countries in the medal rounds - don't get much better then that for me.....

does anyone know if there are any habs invited to the olympics?  would be nice to pay attention to how they all do. but   if you think about it   a lot of events are usually dominated by 4 or 5 countries  not just hockey, just its usually not Canada.
