Thanks to JohnM for providing the inspiration for complaining to the CBC for it's obviously one-sided coverage on HNIC...I think it had an impact!
And-o's complaint referenced the fact that the CBC is a publically funded broadcaster. And-o suggested that, since all the crew of HNIC are obviously lifelong Leaf fans, perhaps they adopt the name "Leafs HNIC"....just so long as they cease using PUBLIC FUNDS!!!
And-o also suggested that the leftwing loving, granola crunching, ballet and opera supporting, treehugging and "do gooders" start looking for work at Leafs TV, since PUBLIC FUNDS are the only thing that keeps their act floating.
And-o noticed that the HNIC crew was split-up last night for the first time in memory!
Personally I think that the job of a sportscaster is no different than a newspaper reporter. To report the facts and just the facts. This does not happen in Leafs broadcasts with the Cole/Neale love in. They allow their personal views to cloud what is really going on in the game and reporting the facts. They distort the bad things the Leafs do to mak ethem look less harmful, and they make the good things look like no other team in the history of the NHL has done them. This became painfully obvious watching the Laffs game last night (was at another Xmas party and had to keep going to a hotel room to catch some of the Habs game..unfortunately had to share the tv with Laffs fans). When teh Sharks scored Cole barely raised his voice..when a Leaf scored you could hear Bob Cole jumping up and down..unreal

These two guys are one of the many reasons I want the Laffs to fail miserably. A buddy of mine(a Laff fan)wants to know why I despise the Laffs so much. I always mention Neale and Cole. It's like watching a Laff lovefest with those two clowns.
U mean they may have actualy listened. I listened to some of the game and I noticed it too. I never gave it a thought. Great job to all who complained even us South of the Border

This is misinformed and a total cliche, or I should say a bunch of them strung together. More public funds go to propping up large business concerns than "culture" or whatever you want to call the CBC, opera, etc...in fact, "public funds" are repeatedly called upon to prop up the NHL itself, all over North America, and we're talking about serious money not just crumbs. Ballet, art, whatever, just gets a trickle here and there. The "free market" is a complete myth in this regard. A good contemporary example is in PEI where it was conventional wisdom that the enormously popular musical "Anne of Green Gables" propped up the art gallery, museum, public library, etc... housed at the Confederation Centre. The truth was that "Anne" gobbled up almost all of the public funding, and lost money (even though it's hugely popular), while the art gallery/museum balanced its miserably tiny budget; the real reason? Because the tourist industry (which is already heavily subsidized) has lots and lots to gain from Anne being a quality product.

Wow! If you think all fans of cultural events are Lefties or Granola eaters (which I'm assuming is your euphamism for homosexuals) then I feel a little sorry for your narrow understanding of reality. And what do you consider "do gooders?" People who volunteer to work in children's cancer wards? The people who want to make sure your grandkids can turn on a faucet and be able to drink what's coming out of it without fearing for their lives? As Plouf said, the last thing you should be worried about your funds going to is ballet. Look into some trade subsidies at some point if you want a real eye opener on where you cash is being spent.

Plouf: One of my best friends was Director of Finance & Operations at the Confederation Centre for 6 or 7 years (she's now in charge of Neptune Theatre in Halifax). Do you have inside info on the finances of the Confederation Centre? Maybe we have the same friend?
By the way, I agree with your rebuff to Ando's right-wing cowboyisms.

Seriously. there's plenty of places to get your political rocks off on the web. One of things I like about this forum is that it's free from all that. And so far, everyone is pretty calm and cool about stuff, even if we disagree.

Amen to that! Well said (as usual), Brook.

Nope...there was big controversy at the Centre a few years ago. It all came out in the open.
As for "Anne"...my daughter lives for it. I probably know all the songs off by heart from being forced to play it in the car. I used to hate it, but how you can you argue with a 6-year old kid with pigtails who's missing both her front teeth?
