It looks like the clutch and grab is back in full force . . . Higgins was basically getting mugged along the boards.  I really wouldn't be surprised if it's back to the way Hockey was played before the lock-out by the time we hit the playoffs.

I'm getting the LA feed on Center Ice, and while the crowd was cheering "Avery Sucks!" the announcer said, "I'm not quite sure what they're saying, must be French for We Love Avery"
Classic

Avery's right there in my John Rocker hatred hall of fame

Ahhhh... Bonehead penalty by Rivet, what was he thinking? So frustrating to start the 3rd a man down

Sounds like the Habs are playing well....again, crossbars and posts though. Zednik and Bulis missing chances, etc....Dagenais our one sniper? Yikes.

Dumb penalty by someone at the end of the 2nd apparently?

Super dumb, Rivet sucker-punched Brown after cleanly taking him down

1 goal 3 assists for Ovechkin so far....good to see the Rangers taken down a notch, since they will probably fight us for spots 4-8 in the East. (I can't see them finishing ahead of Philly in that division)

Be nice if Dags got the hat trick. I just got home, with about 14:00 minutes left in the second. Canadiens seem to be playing well, and so do the Kings. I love when Avery gets checked, the crowd goes wild! Can't wait for the third, hopefully we can pull this one off.

Its the same old thing  we get a lead after working very hard for a goal, and Theo steps up to help us lose. I have had it  Im going down stairs and break open the bottle of rum my Jamaican friend brought me from Montego Bay  Theo stinks and Garon getting hot

At least the second goal was a refreshing change from the "Theo goes down and the shot is top shelf" routine - this time Theo was down, then stood up while the puck went in sliding along the ice!

Is it just me, or are both Souray and Ryder playing like their jocks are on too tight?  Man, they look like they're asleep out there!

There's a lotta sleepiness. Ribs has looked suprised the puck was coming at him at least 4 times that I've seen, and the passing overall has been doze-worthy

I agree, the Habs team in general looks like they're asleep.  Not sure what can be done about that . . .

Nil - I have to disagree about Souray. I think this might be the best game he has played this year.

I'll take it! I don't care if they were sleepy, sloppy, dopey or any of the other dwarves, a win's a win, and sweeter still after the last couple of weeks!

I'll take it too. And with Toronto blowing a 3-1 lead against San Jose, and the Rangers losing, and even Philadelphia and Carolina behind at the moment, this has been a good day for the Habs.

Well, that might still not be saying much.  I don't see it, but anyway - we won!

I will post the positives. The Canadiens were aggresive and they had to be because of the Kings.I was again happy with Soursy and that has been rare this year for me.  Avery would heve run over Theo if we let him just like he did last night on Hasek. I can also say I thought there were atleast 3 times we could have ben called for a penalty, but no whistle. You think the word is "dont screw with us and CJ"? Dagineis of all people God Bless him. Bulis has an open net early on and missed entirely. If he had missed this one that would have been it. Theo was ok and I mean ok. He did make a few key stops. The PP needs work stil. Hey a week from now the D is all back (Markov, Komi). That leaves just the Captain and Bonk(who cares) and Kovy. Did we not use Murray tonight??    Those are my thoughts

We dodged a bullet there!  I assume they went with "form over substance".  Yes, the net was indeed off its moorings when the puck went in, but it didn't affect the play, and it was dislodged by the Kings themselves (maybe on purpose).  I'm not sure what the official ruling was, but I'm glad we finally won one on a weird goal.  We've lost a few that way.

Agree on the penalties, there were definitley a couple of dodged bullets

According to the LA broadcast, the net was still in contact with the pegs, and never came off completely, also the refs have the option of calling it a goal if the defending team knocks it off, even if unintentionally

HUGE WIN!!!

Considering the slump/injuries and the fact we don't play again for a week.  Mix in losses by Buffalo (last night), Leafs and Rangers . . .

Congrats Habs on a hard fought well deserved win!

Time to get some practicing in/injured back and get get rested  . . . to get back to using their best asset, SPEED!

You've pretty well covered all topics in that one post, David.  Theo was named second star, but I agree with you he was OK but not spectacular.  Still, it was one of his better games, and he made the saves when they needed him to.

I did not see Murray once.  Was he even on the bench?

Another thought:  What about Dagenais on the point on the PP?  He has a bullet shot, but maybe his skating deficiency would be a liability back there.  Also, he's not much of a passer.  OK, I guess I've talked myself out of that stupid idea!

Now we have a week to savour that victory.  A loss would have made for a looooong week.

For those who didn't listen to the radio version:

-Murray Wilson was pretty happy with Theo. Both announcers raved about Rivet, in general. Dagenais was their first star (had to be) ...didn't see it, but apparently the first goal was a beauty...

-nothing else big to relay, other than that Murray said people seemed to be hitting and working, (but also looked tired - no surprise when you have only 3 lines!), and even Ribeiro (whose line got stuck in their end again a lot near the end) came up with some steel finally when it was needed.

Can't remember any other comments they made...

dags first goal was sick.....he can fire that puck like no other on our team, he played good tonight, seems to be in the right place at the right time and probably could have had a few more tonight

theo didn't just play ok....he played awesome, some of those saves in the third were amazing, he was quick tonight...looks like he is back so watch out eastern conference.

pleckanec played one of his most solid games of the year. he hustles every time he is on the ice.....did you see him backcheck and catch the kings player and take the puck off his stick, man he might have saved a goal.

i think souray played a great game tonight.  he played great positional hockey and did his job out there.  he was a physical presence out there.  played tough along the boards and that is what we need him to do.   it is a huge plus to have him playing with his head in the game again.

begin was pretty good too. what heart this guy has(repetitive)...i love seeing this guy make things happen...

i think this may be the start of another roll for the habs....to bad we won't be seeing them play for a week but it will give guys a chance to heal.

One negative comment:

Ribeiro (who apparently had a good game for the most part) is obviously taking long shifts by the looks of his ice time tonight. Also Murray Wilson (gotta love his deadpan pessimism) complained twice about Ryder and Ribeiro being slow to get off the ice.

I'm glad to hear about Plekanec. He has really stepped it in the absence of Koivu. At least one of our rookies is involved these days.

Yes, me too... I only got to see the second period, but I liked what I saw from Souray.
