Koivu Out

The Montreal Canadiens will be without captain Saku Koivu tonight when they host the Buffalo Sabres at the Bell Centre.

Koivu, with one assist in the last five games, is suffering a groin injury and the team will likely call up a player from Hamilton of the AHL.

The Montreal Gazette reports that Koivu left practice early Wednesday after feeling what head coach Claude Julien described as "a twinge" in his groin.

It's a recurring problem that Koivu has reportedly been been playing through.

More to follow.

Now we see what Ribs can do when he 1st line center. I hope that he uses this chance well or maybe Plecks get promoted to 1st line center

God, it never ends!  This is 2001/2/3 all over again.  The Habs had more man-days out than any team in the league for I believe three straight years.  Is it bad luck or something else at play?

i am actually getting furious....sitting at home learning of more injuries each day and watching our habs fall down the standings....****

it is so frustrating to watch such a good start go to waste because of injuries, i would rather have a hard fought loss then a game we lose playing with half a team.

Think about it this way, It cant get much worse. Sure it could get worse...but i mean anything else really wouldnt change the fact that we're losing...just how badly

there goes our only other 1 or 2 line player, lets hope our underachieving superstar between the pipes does something.  At least Buffalo will be without Briere and Dumont.  Lets see how are 3 and 4th line players do tonight.

My God.  Some of you (no offense johab, you were the post above this one, I would have included all of the others if I could) are acting like the extreme opposite of leaf fans.  Instead of planning the Cup parade, you're planning the funeral procession.  According to my calculations, (let's see, carry the one, minus the circumference of a puck, plus Ribs points for the year, divided by the distance to the sun) I get 57 games left, including tonight.  That's alot of hockey.  I have said it before, and I shall say it again, I prefer the injury bug at the beginning of the year, as opposed to during the final week of the regular season or into the playoffs.(Actually I would prefer to not get injuries, but I am talking about the Habs)

i know my post seemed to be negative but not really, just frustrated and wanting it all to end now so we can start climbing back up the standings

i am confident in our team to get it back together once we are healthy and right now is a good chance to get our young guys some much needed experience because come playoff time or down the stretch, we will need them

Heet 150, I actually have the feeling this is going to be going on all year long. I really feel Souray is like a delicate piece of glass. You will be watching him for the first small hit, and hes done. Koivu well its a wonder he injured. Have you seen the pace they have ben playing at. Thios wide open play will be taking its toll on a lot more players before its over

I sure hope that it is Saku's groin that is hurt because it sure as heck looks like a bum knee to And-o!!!

Anyone here ever feel a "twinge" in your groin that caused you to poke at the puck like you were shooting pool???  ME NEITHER!!!

...history repeats!

Dr. And-o? Have you ever had a groin injury? Ever treated one? Yes it can cause you to "poke" at the puck. Thanks to Ribero farting around all seaon like a fancy boy, Koivu has been worked like a dog.

It's like what I have been saying for the past 10 games...If the habs continue to rely on Koivu, Bouillion, Markov, the way they have been, you can expect burn out and injuries.

I say thanks Ribero for playing like a schoolgirl, and thanks CJ for turning our once promising rookies into a bunch of Bantom AAA players. What happened?

I posted some time ago  that we have a few players who are doing everything and they will be either injured or burned out. Biron has been hot as of late for Buffalo.  We need the PP to get going (so whats new)and work on keeping out of Penalty Box.

Muller, are you really blaming Ribs for Saks injury? Sorry Muller but Ribs isn't the person who's been at the helm and the only player he could come up with was Sens throw away Bonk! Habs have had center depth problems for a loooooong time! Ribs even as I agree that he hasn't played as well as before can't play center on all four lines!
