Game Thread BUF vs MTL Dec 1/05
Permalink Closed

Like their chicken wings, Buffalo is hot.  Montreal is like their bagels - a gapping hole in the centre.  I don't see a win in the cards.  Sorry, usually I'm optimistic.  If Montreal plays well, they'll lose by a goal.  Only way to win is for Theo to take it for us.  3-2 for the winner.

Any word on when we might see Huet in action?

I don't imagine Huet will be tonight.  Koivu is out with a groin injury.  So, we're screwed, right?

Sorry, my glass is usually half full.  I do not think we are screwed.  Too many variables.  Like the refs. (Like it or not NHL, the refs are factoring into too many games)  Or, Theo having a good game.  I cannot discount the Habs before any game.  Hey, I thought they had a chance against Ottawa.  Call it rose coloured glasses or living with my head in the sand (or somewhere else), but I never think they will definately lose any game.

Well, it will be interesting to see what lines we get.  I imagine what we want and what we'll get will be different.  Here's what I imagine (and correct me if I put someone where they don't belong.)

What I want:

Zed-Hig-Perez

Ryder-Bonk-Plekanec

Bulis-Begin-Sunny

Dandy/Souray/call up-Ribs-Dags...I think having a d on that 4th line could soften the blow of the 2 players who's defense blows and, obviously, 4th line gets 3 shifts.  And Plek and Hig can share some line 1 time, I think.

I wouldn't hate to see Begin on the first line, but I like that second line.

It would be fun to see Begin on the first line for a 5-6 shifts.  I imagine it will really be Ribs up there, tho.  Who are we calling up?  Lapierre and Vandemeer, probably.  Or is Ivanas ready?  Oh well, none of them will make a difference.  I'd take a tough guy because we need to free up Begin because he's our top scoring centre now (points vs ice time.)

Why Plekanec on the wing?

Absolutely Plekanec centring one of the top two lines. He's been one of our best forwards lately, he works hard and wins faceoffs.

I agree with you plouff all the way, Pleks seems to be the only one skating and is our best face off guy even when Koivu is back.   At least Buffalo is missing Briere and Dumont, oh it doesn't matter who is missing, the Habs need a kick in the butt, start skating like the beginning of the season. Or were all the other teams tired and now they've caught up or are we getting tired. Just don't know, its getting more than frustrating.

The fact that we are even considering Begin as ourt first line Center tonite shows the sorry state we are at (at that position) and gives me shivers. Not to take anything away from Stevey but really now, Can you pictur eany team in the league (even Cloumbus) where Begin would Center the top line? Help Bob.

Well I was going to change my John Daly picture to me in my Christmas thong in the spirit of the season but just for that you will have to use your imagination.

Plek on the wing because Higgins was listed a centre and Plek a winger.  But I've heard that Plek is potentially our #2 if Ribs doesn't get it togther.  On top of that, I wanted to share the talent.  Now, with AK47 called up (although it looks like he's # 46) he might be a good mate for line 2.  What we might see is Bonk/Ribs on line one, Plek/Hig #2.  Wow, what a puzzle.

Wow....Ribeiro-Ryder-Dagenais line picking it up.

Please, please, please let this continue! Last year they carried us for stretches.

Anybody see any of the boston-ottawa game? Sturm scores (soft goal for Hasek, but Sturm showed some good off-the-puck skating), and Stuart sets up a beauty (and not only was his pass good, but his positioning to get open by coming back to the perimeter to make that play was excellent - really smart off the puck movement and great passing from Boston players on both goals).

I guess what Boston needed was a chemistry shake-up.

Theo gives up another top shelf goal . . . 2-2 with 4 mins left in the third.  The Habs had better get at least a point out of this game.

Hey, I'm glad they got a point out of this game. No Koivu, no Kovalev, no Markov, no Komisarek,... up against a hot team.....whew...I'm kind of amazed actually.

Refs are calling too many penalties.

Wow... Habs were playing very good without the key players... Theo... ???? He goes down way to soon; the second goal went over his right shoulder because he leaned down too much. Like I said before, bring Danis back. Theo's getting tired and when will Huet be ready to play?

We should have had the win. Yes a strong game and it was nice to see Souray getting physical. I am not happy we gave it away. It is only getting worse. Look at Boston, the three players made the difference 3-0 over Ottawa plus two of the new players had points. Only Ottawas 4 th loss. Bruins are 100 percent better now and thats bad for us. We need to be able to compete. Not sure if we can with the injuries

Goal with four minutes left, lose in OT.  Seems like the team from a few years ago - finding ways to lose.  Didn't see the game, but a win would have been nice.  From the shots, seems like we were outplayed - but a 2-0 lead squandered hurts!
