Game Thread MTL vs NJD 11/18/05

According to RDS.ca, Theo is still questionable.  Would you risk it?  I think we are alright with Danis and I'd prefer to see Theo not take a chance.  I see another one-goal game, 4-3 Habs.  Koivu will conitnue to score and is going to lead this team through this current injury bug.

I would give Danis another start why risk it.  Theo can play tomorrow night or give him two nights off.  Danis can handle himself.  Jersey may be without Mogilny as he has had a concussion, and might not be ready to go fire.  Jersey doesn't really have any other real big guns besides him, but they play great team concept and alway stick around to give themselves a chance at the win.

I say let the kid play tonight and see if Theo is better tomorrow. With back to back games, I think it's an easier decision. I have a feeling this might be the game that finally gives our cardiac systems a night off! I say 5-2 habs with Les Boys leading by 2-3 goals all night. Ryder is due (if Ribs realizes he's not a member of the ice capades) and I think he gets at least 2 goals. Koivu will be Koivu! Anybody see him break up that 3 on 1 the other night? The guy is becoming more of leader than anyone could have guessed, McHab included! Go Habs Go!

there are no excuses tonight, the devils are missing a few key players too in elias and mogilny.  we should be able to outperform them by using our speed.  i hope we come out hard though on the road.  i don't want to see the boys down early agaisnt a potentialy hot brodeur.

denis should get the start, no risk hurting theo more and denis has proven he can at least give our team the chance to win.  since new jersey has been strugling this year, putting them down  few early might break them and allow us to get a rare large margin of victory.....hopefully

i'd also like to see ryder snipe a few and that whole line contribute tonight, take some pressure off of koivu for a night.

potential 4 point weekend is definately in reach, we need to keep getting these points that are ours for the taking if we want to keep pace atop the league....i want to keep toronto as far as posible behind us.

go habs go

I think it's pretty much guaranteed that Brodeur will be on his game against the Habs. It's important to capitalize on our PP's when we get them and hold on to the lead. This game will be close, if we are to win I think we can't allow more than 2 goals against.

I have a bad feeling about this game. New Jersey will be playing tight D to compensate for the loss of some key offensive players. Let's hope they get themselves into penalty trouble.

Time for Chris Higgins to step out of a few shadows and give us all a glimpse of the future Captain!  Komi will also be a force tonight!!!

...these kids are from the Long Island area...and should have kin and kind present!  NOBODY likes to look bad in front of Mom and Dad!

Go Habs!  It would be real nice to get 2 more pts on the road, and this game is very winnable.

Not sure what the reasoning was behind Theo playing tonight . . . I have bad vibes for this game, hopefully I'm wrong.  Time for a few liquid refreshments I'd say . . . Go Habs!

Devils 1 Habs 0 . . . Habs are being badly outshot and outplayed.

End of one:

i honestly think that was the worst period we played all year, there has been bad but that was awful....no one looked like they were even trying at all, theo kept us just down by 2, but even he couldn't not control a rebound if his life depended on it

we better wake up or this will be our first lopsided game of the season, and not in our favour!

The Kardiac Kids are at it again!  (Koivu:  3 goals, 2 assists in less than 5 periods since Kovalev is out - "props", as And-o would say!

Much better period!

Habs 3 Devils 3

Shots - NJ 26 Mtl 18

Theodore went down again way too early on that Jersey 3rd goal.  His rebounds and going down early will HAVE to be fixed.

man, we got to learn how to play complete games, not just enough to keep the game close and then try and pull one off in the third

i guess it is working but for how long, i wish they would just come out flying from start to finish they way they did in that 10 minute span in the second.

we need a solid team effort in the third and less defensive break-downs

I agree whole heartedly . . . the Habs are a frustrating team at times.  Hopefully they'll put in a solid 20 minutes for the third, they definitely should have the legs for it.  Theodore still scares me though . . . go get this win Mtl, it's there for the taking!

Are Paul Martin and Colin White not the two ugliest guys you've seen? Wow...they probably get a lot of intimidation factor just from looking like they've been run over by trucks and are still alive.

You must have never set eyes on Mike Ricci (look him up - coyoteville).

I didn't realize Canada's Prime Minister was playing for the Devils (actually he would probably sell his soul to the Devil to keep his party in power!).

Paul Martin (the hockey player) is from Minnesota....so he's literally an American Devil. Hmmm....

Needless penalty by Koivu . . . those are always the hardest to kill off, and our PK hasn't been the greatest lately.

I called it . . . Devils 4 Habs 3.  Thanks Koivu, give up a goal for a needless slashing penalty that was behind the play . . . Devils, 3-4 on the PP.

We're in tough now . . .

Mtl didn't deserve this game, from the goalie on out.  A total team loss.  Maybe a good thing in the long run, as the Habs have gotten into the habit of only playing when they want to.  This was a game they easily could have won with a solid 60 minute effort.

The worst game of the year for the Habs . . . Theo is now 4-11 against the Devils . . . and I believe he's also 4-11 against the Leafs right?  Or was that against Belfour.  Regardless, I would like to see Danis start tomorrow and the Canadiens put out a complete effort.

Final - Devils 5 Habs 3

Shots - NJ 31 Mtl 28

The two main problems really showed tonight. Theo consistently being ouplayed and our second line blew chunks. And i mentioned Komi looking goofy on a previous post before this game. On the Kozlov goal he looked real bad.

Good game from Koivu(1G, 1A) despite the penelty, Zednik, Rivet, Plek and Markov.

Other than that pretty bad outing for Begin, Bulis, Komi, theo, Ribs(), Souray, Perez, Higggins.

How about giving Yan Dannis a go for a back to back outing??? I have never figured Theo to be all that good anyhow.

Yup, those are my sentiments exactly.  Now that the future has arrived, I'm kind of wishing that "Boston" playoff series had never happened.  Theo is definitely overrated, he's good no doubt, but much too inconsistent with habits that the league are fully aware of . . . his constant give up of rebounds, and going down before the shot is released.

I'd love to see Danis give Theo a run for the roses . . . but that ain't gunna happen.  Just like Ribs is our second line center whether we want it or not.

We had better be up for the Capitals at home tomorrow, they beat the Leafs a couple of weeks ago in Washington and gave them a good battle the following game in Toronto.  We had better NOT lose tomorrow . . .

About Theo and rebounds.

I can't figure out why he's giving up so many rebounds these days. That used to be one of his most noticeable strengths, something that made him stand out from the other butterfly-reflex goalies. Technically, when Theo is concentrating, he really is one of the best in the NHL; then the next game he's sliding around off balance, giving up rebounds and soft goals.

It seems to be the mental game.
