The whole debate over who should be the back up goaltender. Is very easy from my opinion. It should belong to Yann Danis, he is capable of playing 20-25 games. Which will also give him some experience. C. Huet hasn't played a hockey game in over a year. He is in no way capable of filling that role.
I would try to package C. Huet, R. Hainsey and perhaps P. Daigenais and get a Defense man back.
I couldn't agree more, AWOL. I can't for the life of me understand what BG and CJ see in Streit. Hainsey may be a little green, but he's got some size and talent. The only way he'll get experience is to be allowed to play. With the team doing so well, maybe it's hard to be too critical of the current lineup. But I think everyone will agree that the team will need stronger pairs on the blue line if it's going to compete for the cup. Hainsey may not be the ultimate answer, but I think he's an improvement over Streit any day. Something will have to be done, though, or the best we could hope for would be to make it to the conference finals before being blown out by the juggernaut that is Ottawa.
Just a thought but Hainsey must have a terrible attitude not to be playing rather than Streit! There has to be a reason why Gainey won't call him up. I gather also that if Gainey calls him up, it would have to be long term rather than gambling on him clearing waivers again. Hainsey will have to be playing very strong consistant hockey with sound mind before Gainey gives him another shot.
In reference to the backup goalie situation, I really like Danis, just too bad we'll only see him about every ten games if he stays with the big club. Maybe better off developing him on the farm then trading Theo's butt away and making Danis our number one.
Finally! I've had to secretly hide my dislike for Streit. Now that I know that I'm not alone ... that guy sucks! I have no idea how Hainsey is doing in Steel-Town, but how much worse can he be than Streit? Hainsey is supposed to have offensive upside and he can't be much worse defensively than Streit.
Whew ... that feels better.
To tie this in to the thread ... not sure whether Huet should be traded. I like CJ's approach in getting Danis as much experience as possible -- meaning some back-up duties with the Habs and time down in Steel-Town. So, let Huet back-up Theo while Danis plays in Hamilton. Trade Streit for a bucket of pucks.

Jonny, you're new here; there has actually been quite a bit of Streit-bashing from several corners (including mine). You are not alone in your assessment. I don't know about Hainsey, however. How many chances do we give a guy? He and Marcel Hossa had ample time to prove themselves to be NHL-calibre, but have not done so yet.
Great to see another Hab fan in the Centre Of The Universe, however. Welcome aboard!

Hainsey's always struck me as one of those guys you find the hockey card of ten years down the line and go "oh, yeah, I remember him" as you toss it in the wastebasket
I'd give the backup to Y. Dannis. This kid has potentential. He's played 3 games this season in the NHL and has won all three of them. I believe he has 1 shootout. He's solid.
