Fixing the Habs main deficiencies!
Permalink Closed

As I see it, the Habs have four persisting problems;

1.       The need for a top 3 defenseman who can consistently anchor the PP (self-explanatory).

2.       The need for a solid two-way centreman to lead the 2nd line (the Ribs line is just plain broken…and Bonk seems to be relegated to a permanent checking-line role).

3.       The need for an ultra-competitive forward with infectious “finishing” capabilities (Begin, Bonk, Bulis, Sundstrum…and sometimes even Kovy and Saku could not flip the puck into the ocean using a teaspoon at times).

4.       Theodore’s struggles versus conference rivals (This is a job for Rolley and Theo to work-out.  Why not just play Danis versus the Leafs, Panthers, etc.???).

My thinking is that since both Gainey and Julien have seemingly had some egg on their face lately, we can reasonably expect some sort of a major change soon!

There are plenty of teams struggling.  Lots of potential solutions from various rosters exist.

Edmonton is rumored to be looking to upgrade a few slots.  St. Louis stinks.  Washington is in full rebuilding mode.  San Jose hasn’t exactly played very well so far.  In other words, Gainey could easily find a trading partner!!!

And-o expects the “tradewinds” to pick-up between now and the Christmas break…because the Habs proverbial “cracks” are beginning to leak water!!!

You can now add a top power forward to your list of needs. Kovalev is having knee surgery in Pittsburgh tomorrow. No word yet on how long he will be out.

Agreed And-o, I have been saying the same for a while.  I have heard that Steve Staois from Edmonton is available and he is a good two-way, physical, right-side guy.  They also have a Czech named Dvorak who is known for speed, defense and streaky scoring, but I think he would be a great addition to the Bonk and Bulis line.  Edmonton needs a scoring center and I believe Ribiero would be good bait for them.  As for Kovalev; it is time for Perez to show his worth.

Good post And-o: pretty much nailed what we need.

I'd upgrade it even more to a top 2 defenseman though. I like Rivet, but not as a #2.
