Begin exonerated (copied from Spiderman's post)

NHL says sorry to Begin: There will be no further disciplinary action taken against Steve Begin by the league after Kerry Fraser assessed him a major for elbowing, a game misconduct and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for his hit on Maxime Talbot in the third period against Pittsburgh Thursday night.

“We heard from the league that the hit was in fact clean as the replay clearly showed,” said Julien of the hit that was deemed a five-minue major for elbowing. “But referees don’t have the benefit of seeing all the replays that we have access to. The game moves pretty fast out there and mistakes are going to happen.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good to see the League agrees with the majority of us armchair refs.  Very diplomatic response from the always professional Claude Julien.   And further proof that Kerry Fraser is a dolt.

One thing that is becoming increasingly clear and it bodes very well for the Habs this year. Aside from the Hair Spray Ad in Stripes, Julien has the respect of NHL officials because of his professional approach. Unlike Pat Quinn who rants, raves and swears every time one of his angelic Leafs gets called, CJ treats the zebras with respect. I still feel that will give you the odd "benefit of a doubt call". But if you are constantly whining about each and every call the refs will do everything they can to make your life miserable.

Maybe someone should send this to Frazer This goes to show you, I realize the refs do not see a replay or have the benefit of using a replay on penalties. But if the Habs lost because of the penalty I would have been really pissed. As it was we killed off the panalty   Frazer you A**

Julien's class certianlly sets him apart from Therrien, remember him. Therrien used to rant about a bad call and in fact got an extra penelty for it against Carolina in the playoffs while we were leading, we lost the game and eventually the series. Therrien also got fined heavily after yelling at Frazer after a game for one of Frazers annual bonehead antihab calls. maybe frazer will now have a little more class, and stop picking on the Habs, who knows he could just be pissed at the way Therrien had treated him in the past.

It was a clean HARD hit. Fraser is a wuss boy. Period. And in my opinion, it did cost the habs the game. they were flyin the last 15 min of that game.

I really do feel that the habs get called more than other teams. Just a thing I think some refs have against the habs because win or loose they have fan support. Pits needed that game, for the fans. Fraser saw that it happened. Habs sucked the first 45 mins of the game but were(in my opinion) going to pull this one out. Until fraser's wuss like call!

Never liked Therrien much, too much of a hothead. CJ is a class act. He reminds me of Jacques Demers who stands out as my favorite coach of the last 25 years (it helps that we won a cup with him, but so did Jean Perron...)

The Laffs will continue to go nowhere as long as Quinn is at the helm. Living in Toronto, I can tell you that many diehard leaf fans agree with this assessment. I say this not as a Leaf fan (which I'm not of course), but as an outside hockey observer...

I remember Therrien when he coached the Baby Habs when theye were in Fredericton. I had season tickets behind their bench andgot to watch his antics every night. He was an idiot and it became clear that the refs began LOOKING for penalties to call on them. Let's face it. Referees are human. Even though they will not admit it, there is a subconcious part of them that says "ok boys you want to treat me like crap, just wait..I will get you back". Besides that, I have YET to see a referee change his mind after calling a penalty.
