Contraction?

As fast and as fun as it has been so far this year, imagine if the league shed a couple of teams (or more) which would up the overall standard of play.

But which two (or more) would go, if any?

Florida - why does Florida need two teams? they can barely support one, but its hard to get rid of the Lightning who just won the cup

Atlanta - Cant support a team

Carolina - Cant support a team

Phenoix - how do you lose a team to Phenoix, not a hockey town.

New Jersey - Not excactly a hockey city even though they are a good team.

Pittsburgh - even with Crosby there not selling out.

There are a lot of places that cant support a hockey team in my mind.

I'd get rid of Atlanta, Carolina, Phoenix and Florida.  Then I'd add Winnipeg and Quebec.  (And Halifax, but that's just a pipe dream! )

Carolina, Florida, Nashville, Atlanta, Phoenix. I'd keep Pittsburgh and New Jersey for sure, these teams are former Stanley Cup Champions.

Lets get rid of Nashville, Phoenix, and 1 FLA team.

I would like to see a NHL team that is supported by the Maratimes... Nova Scotia, Newfounland, ect - - but I don't want to lose Ryder. There should be more Canadian teams in the NHL - after all, hockey originated in Canada!

You know, in the new NHL, Winnipeg and Quebec might even be able to support a team! Wouldn't that be cool?

Never happen....next NHL franchise goes to Houston, or San Diego or something...

Actually, I think a team in Moncton, NB could draw 15,000 to 18,000 per game.  I say Moncton because they have more population within a three-hour drive than, say, Halifax, even though Halifax itself is much bigger.  Moncton could draw from its own metropolitan area, plus Halifax, Saint John, Fredericton, Miramichi, Charlottetown, and all points in-between.
