The Day after Thread
Permalink Closed

Hi guys- Just a few thoughts about last night's game since the thread was getting so long I thought I would start a new one.

  1. I thought the Pens played very well and very hungry after a loss the night before. Maybe the Habs were guilty of looking ahead to the Leafs game, but I feel that it was good to have a loss like that. It is a wake up call. I can guarantee you that it was a long flight home and you would not want to be sitting near CJ. I would also not want to be at practice today. I know from experience that the day after a ba deffort his practices are just plain painful.

  2. As for all the whining about who CJ used when let me just say this (and I know I am no where NEAR the expert that Pierre McGuire is..by the way can anyone tell me why Pierre ha snot gotten another coaching job? Seems to know everything?)..Bonk should be on the Powe Play. Not because he has good hands but because he is so big. Who else do we have to go to the net? Koivu? Uhmmm no. And why NOT Dagenais on the PP? Souray was hurt. Markov is our only real mobile guy back there. As for trying different line combinations the team was D-E-A-D! When that happens you need to try everything you can to shake things up. If I could question him on one move it is not using Ribs for the shootout.

  3. The Begin hit was not a "head shot" as McGuire put it. You tell me how Begin was supposed to stop when at the last minute the player has his head down? Begin had him lined up long befor ehe put hid head down. I hate to see a player get hurt but I am sure next time he will not be looking at his feet when he has the puck. We teach that in Timbits hockey you know.

  4. Theo is proving he deserves the big contract. He is playing like one of the top 3 goalies in the league. I defy ANYONE to tell me who could have stopped that. Wow..3 moves then backhand and roofs it. UNREAL. Anyone who says this kid is not the real deal needs to step forth and explain themselves right now. Overhyped? I think NOT!. Afterall he was Pierre's Monster. That says it all.

  5. We desperately need another dman. I am sorry guys. I do not like Streit either but I can tell you I really do not like Boiullon. We need a top 4 type dman. I am totally impressed with Rivet's play though.

  6. Ottawa- anyone watch the highlights? They are for real. Difference is that this year they have goaltending. Unstoppable that team. Wish they were in the West

All in all guys not our best performance but got a point against a VERY determined and hungry team. The Pens showed what they can do when they actually get some goaltending.

I am not at the reunion this weekend because my grandmother passed away. She was a HUGE habs fan and will now be enjoying the games from above. Another Angel for us Nil'd.

My prayers and condolences go out to you and your family and we will definitely raise a glass to your Grandmother's lifelong loyalty on Saturday.  Maybe she can get the Big Guy to to break His neutrality a bit for the Habs!

As for the team, I have said from before the season that they need a top-four offensive D on the right-side and I believe it even more now.  Teams are going to focus in on Markov more and more and we need another guy who can move the puck... someone who can pair with Souray so he can stick to playing solid D and not have to handle the puck much.

Crosby is magic, plain and simple.  Ribiero has got to go.  Sundstrom should be playing 4th line and top PK unit, as we need a guy with more offensive skills to go along with Bonk and Bulis.  My pick is another Czech:  Radek Dvorak from Edmonton.  Fast, excellent D, solid size and physicality, and knows how to score.  Higgins should stay on the 2nd line and we need to get Perez up there, as well.  Pleks, Begin and Sundstrom would be a 4th line that I would never worry about having out there, although we should bring in a guy who can replace Sunny for those extra-rough games... but he has to have some skill... maybe Garth Murray from the Rangers trade or pick up Asham and Niinima from the Isles?

I like this team, but it is time to tweak and bring in the Dman we sorely need.

Saint Lorette should be given her well-earned retirement for now. How about we honour your grandmother (I extended my sympathies in another post) by anointing her as the new Habs' Patron Saint?  She was YOUR grandmother, so she must be a saint already anyhow!   What was her name?
