Well here we are ..10-3..who would have thunk it? Anyone who can sit here and say with a straight face that they would expect the Habs to have this record at this stage needs to go into politics. There is no question that if you look at our team on paper (like the experts did in pre-season predictions) there is no way we should be where we are. But a combination of superior coaching, team chemistry and just pure old fashioned WILL TO WIN have us where we are now. Some points if I may:
1) We need to stop with the "Does CJ know what he is doing" rhetoric. He and his staff have a very average team in first place. Next question? We can sit here and say "why does he play this guy so much, or why does he not play the rookies more when they are hot", the bottom line is results. He knows what he is doing and he knows how to manage his assets. He is not going to play the kids any more than he has to and that my friends is just plain SMART. Guys like Perez and Higgins have a huge future in front of them. Why ruin it by putting a ton of pressure on them? Does CJ know what he is doing? 10 and 3. Next Question please.
2)I need to ask why no one commented on the 2 goals Danis let in last night? I thought the point shot was pretty brutal and I know had it been Theo that you guys would have been all over that.
3)Good teams find a way to win. They can look like they are going through the motions for half the game then step it up and pull it out. They also get contributions fro unlikely heros and that is what is happening. We have run into some really hot goaltending at times. Yet kept plugging away and managed to pull it out. Good teams do that.
4) Hoping Ivanis gets back soon and has a chance to redeem himself. That is the one element that I feel we are missing right now and we need to find a place for him in the lineup.
5) I feel that we tend to start LOOKING for mistakes. Like Souray last night. That giveaway was the forwards fault not Sheldon's. The forward left the zone wayyyy too soon and should have been there to accept the pass.

I love what CJ is doing (and you can tell him I said that!), and I love that the Habs find a way to win; other years, they were finding ways to blow games.
My only big concern so far this year is the Habs' mediocre record at home (4-3). Undefeated on the road is amazing, but if home-ice advantage means anything in the playoffs, they'll have to start winning at home.
But other than that, I love this year's edition of the Habs more than any other year since 1993.

Danis had a couple of moments where his pads were made of flubber, but I think the reason he doesn't get as much guff as theo is that we don't him all that well yet. The honeymoon is still on. He'll get his chance.
I think the home record Nil is indicative of the age of our team. They are young and I think they tend to feel more pressure at home. That will come as the season progresses.

Very good post Barry, you have sold me. I for one will never second guess Cj again. He is amazing when it comes to what lines to put out and when. This team respects him and will work hard for him. Unlike the police chief I work for we all wish he would take a misconduct.
I'm excited about the fact that we are winning 1-goal games, frankly.
For those who watched the world series. One of the things several White Sox players said in interviews afterwards was that they won a lot of close games during the season, whereas St.Louis, the Angels, etc.. were often blowing people out. Their whole year, right up to the end of the regular season where they had to fight off a surging Indians team, was full of pressure moments. And so they were ready for the playoffs.
Not that we want to make any predictions just yet, but there some shades of 86 with this bunch of young players.
I said that thing about the 86' team before the season started! Seemed to get laughed off the board. Look at that 86' team. The makeup is VERY similiar.
However with Ottawa in our division, Don't expect a repeat I'm afraid.

Shades of 86 are right! But also remember how the league also shaped up then. Philly was top of the conference if I my memory serves me correct but then an upstart NYR team beat them and the Flames beat the Oilers in a brutal 7 game series to clear lighten our trip to the cup.
prediction: Latrendesse (sic) rises as a hero like Claude Lemieux in 86. What an awesome 10 year anniversary that would be.
