Game Thread MTL vs BUF Nov 4/05
Permalink Closed

Well, looks like Danis will start.  Makes sense vs a team that was just thrashed and being on the road.  I think Montreal should handle the Sabres pretty easily.  Just have to attack and do what OTT did - use their speed and exploit the shallow opponent.  Easy road win?  Sure, why not.  4-1.  Kovy, Ribs, Souray, Zed.  Kovu 2 pts and Montreal outshoots by 10-15 shots.

I think that it is nice to see the Buffalo Sabres competing and playing so well.  I have always thought that Sabres management has shown a solid ability to make proverbial lemonade from lemons.  They always seem to skate well and play with loads of energy and intensity…and they are very well coached.

In fact, I was amazed to read on another board this week that the Buffalo Sabres are one of two teams in the entire NHL with an all-time winning record versus the Habs (Florida is the other)!!!

My question about the Sabres - is there a smaller market left in the league in terms of corporate sponsorship potential???  (Calgary, Nashville, Edmonton could all likely generate more corporate muscle in my opinion)

At any rate, the Buffalo Sabres are certainly worthy of respect…but Buffalo sure is a waste of real estate (those who have been their will surely agree)!

…And-o thinks that a weekend sweep of the Swords would be a major accomplishment for these Habs.

Time for some solid team defense!

It will not be asn easy game. The Sabres were down 5-0 and came back with three in a row. They bare fast and our guys cannot take them for granted. I say we will win, but every time we say that we should handle the opponent that evening easily ,it seems we have a hard time.

They bare fast?  Then we should undress them!

(Grammarman made me post that one!)

We'll be in tough tonight, the Sabres will be pissed about that Ottawa game.  We should be able to handle them in Mtl, and a win tonight would be real sweet but I'm not counting on it.

The Habs will have to watch the penalties and work hard if they expect to win.

Damn, PP goal for Buffalo . . .

Sabres 1 Habs 0 early . . . we gotta get that back and soon.

i can't believe that the rookie line can go out there and work their butts off, create chances, draw penalties, score a goal, and then barely play the rest of the period....get it together CJ....reward their hard work so they keep it up.  they looked bettter in 2 shifts then the rest of the team the whole period!  i realize penalties have something to do with the lack of ice time but that is another issue in itself.

tied after one on the road so hopefully they pick it up a bit and pull ahead, good luck th restof the way boys!

go habs go

What a stupid pass by Souray setting the second goal. When will he stop making those stupid plays. On the brighter side Kovy is playing well, he as robbed. Too bad we missed the goal on the breakaway. Perfect when the d man broke his stick. We do however seem a little flat. We need this game. If ths Sabs win they go into Habland with confidence. Come on boys I say tie it then get the go ahead goal and an insurance goal. Time for the Capt to step up and show the boys how its done.!!!!!

Habs are in tough, but I knew it would be.

After 2 periods . . .

Sabres 2 Habs 1, with Buffalo outshooting Mtl 16-13.

Habs really have to pick up the intensity if they want to get at least a point.  13 shots after two periods is not enough for this team to have a chance at a win, especially after having 4 PP opportunites thus far.

I'd say that would definitely be a great reason . . . how many goals does our D have this season, 1?

Plus it seems we don't get alot of traffic in front of the net.  Sometimes it's best for the D to just get the puck on the net than just blast away and shoot high or wide.  Getting it on in the net, via a wrist shot might at least cause a deflection off a leg/skate, tip in/redirect or rebound.  We miss the net alot from the point!

The Sabres had some great chances at the end, but the Habs hold one for another come from behind victory!

Huge win with a super third period, outshooting the sabres 17-10 and scoring the only 2 goals.

Let's sweep 'em tomorrow night, but, I want to see a better effort for the full 60 minutes tomorrow, not just 20.

Habs go to 10-3-1 with a 6-0-1 road record.

First win in Buff since 01 plus they got three goals. They only had 6 goals in the last 7 games there. This team just will not say NO. Can u imagine if we had a great pp. Say if we only score on half of the PP. We could have walked away   Danis came up big too.

Yes, Danis played very well tonight, the Sabres had 5 shots in the last minute of play with danis making clutch stops.

The PP has got to get rolling, especially with the talent we have up front, very frustrating.

Let's hope hope for a big effort out of everyone tomorrow night, sweeps within the division are real sweet!

I know we have beaten Boston X2 and hopefully Buffalo X2. We need to be able to beat the people in our division if we want to go anywhere.

sourey played it back against the flow thinking his forward was there but the froward had changed , he could have thrown it behind the net but komi had a man on him so it would have been a fight for the puck , he made what he thought was a good play but the man changing killed it .

It looked much worse than it was I guess. It is easy for me to sit here and say what I did. But, It just looked very bad. Just like Danis tying up the puck with 37 secs left. I would have tried to keep it in play to get it out of the zone.

Anyone else notice that crappy ice? The puck was bouncing everywhere and even Kovalev at times had trouble controlling it. I watched the post game show, and the Buffalo commentators were saying this is the best the Sabres have played in a while. Wow, that's good news for us because we were playing really poorly and still came out with the win. I expect the crowd to get the habs going tomorrow and for us to roll over the Sabres.
