all right folks we are through the first month of the season and we are of to a great start , we have 17 out of 24 points but detroit has 22 so how can we be better . i say we may be . our opponents have a combined 39-32-6 record while detroits hav a 38-50-9 record so it seems we are as good as detroit for the first month atleast .if you count overtime losses or shoot out losses in the loss column detroit has faced 1 team with a better than 500 recored , van. and lost the game , we have faced 2 teams a total of 3 times and have 3 of a possible 6 points.what does all of this prove , nothing but it gave me something to do and you something to read and think about . lol thanks for reading
I've only seen three Det games and parts of two others, and you're right that their competition seems weaker than what the Habs have been up against so far. That being said, I also see them playing some very strong hockey. They're patient offensively and have a defense that smothers the opposition in front of the net -- without taking too many stupid penalties in the process. Plus, they have two strong goalies that have been up to the task nearly every night it would seem -- which could serve them well should another injury happen as did the one to Legace. Where would we be without Theo for a month? While I like Danis and he did play well in his first start, I wouldn't want to have to see him in net for 15 straight games when he's so young.
Oddly enough, I was just looking into the teams with comparable records. In Det's division, they are averaging 12 points. In Mtl's, 15 pts and not one team below 14. And Mtl has played 6 games (3-2-1) against division rivals, whereas Det has played 7(7-0-0).
And, like you said, it doesn't prove anything, I just think these are encouraging stats.
