Half a Theo Better Than None
Permalink Closed

Hose-boy may not be playing at his best yet, but I'm still glad he's in net for the Habs. We all know he has the capability to dazzle. I'm sure he'll do so again. What I can't figure out is why he seems to playing so much of every game from his knees? The two soft goals-against in the Isles game were both scored with Theo on his knees, praying at the altar of Wishful-Thinking. Granted, he's never been a traditional standup goalie, but this new trend is a little alarming. Here's hoping Rollie M. can get Theo, and his game, standing tall again soon. We'll need a full-sized Theo back on his feet to get the Cup back, which is all that any of us really care about, isn't it?

as a coach and former goalie what I see right now in Theo is that both hi stiming an dconfidence are a little off right now. That is why he is on his knees too fast. When your timing and/or confidence are off, you tend to go down too fast. That is the bad news. The good news is that he has the talent. I have never doubted that one minute. It i sjust a matter of him getting his head around things and focused. I see him putting little things together more every game now and improving. It could be worse for us and Theo. I watch the dLeafs game vs Philly the other night..Eddie the Eagle had moments where he looked as nervous as a long tailed cat in a rocking chair convention. He does not look comfy in there at all. Yet, there are times, where he stands on his head and wins the game, much like Theo has been. So Theo is not alone in his struggles.

Let's keep two things in mind here (in the give Theo the benefit of the doubt department). Aside from adjusting to the new rule changes, he is coming off a pretty long layoff (and No I do not count a few games in the Swedish Industrial League as NHL caliber hockey). Plus, to the Habs Credit, he is having to adjust to getting alot less shots in a game compared to the last season. I do not know what the comparison is, but I sense he is getting about half the work he used to in a game. He is used to being busier than the only hooker at a Shriners Convention hotel (and you can imagine how busy she is). So he needs now to adjust to going stretches without any shots at all and trying to stay sharp.
