As a massive Habs fan it is very hard to take losing when you have a goalie that thinks he is worth all the money in the world and then doesn't perform. On a night where we retired 3 jerseys the Habs should have been all over the Leafs. You never want to lose these types of games at home. Makes me sick.
Theo had 5 days rest and should have been ready for this game - its a divisional game and the points are valuable. I watched him comment on Danis's performance and Theo mentioned the difference between the AHL and NHL is you have focus more.
Well guess what Theo - listen to your own advice and focus more and learn to show you are worth 5 million!!!
Our defence wasn't the greatest but you have to rely on your goalie to show up when you need him.
I know its early in the season but I would make it a point to play Danis more to create some competition for Theo. The team seemed to play better in front of Danis.
As well please tell someone to have Ribiero show up and put Dags back to the AHL. Dags is a waste of ice time.
Sad thing is that Theo is a good goalie. Expectations are so high for this guy, it must be hard to stay tough in the mental aspects. Especially in the media crazed Hab land. I feel a little bad for the guy. But really I do not think he is an elite goalie. I hope I am wrong but if Gainey is as smart as I think he is, that is why he picked Price in the draft( He knows theo is over-rated).
Unfortunatly, he had no choice but to sign him to a large contract. Theo is a french canadian so called superstar and if he didn't sign him, all heck would have broken loose.
Same goes for Ribs--any other guy playing this bad would have been benched by now. I think the plan is to keep playing him so that eventually everyone( including those that love him), realize he is not that good. Then everyone will be comfortable having him benched or traded( for a 10lb bag of basmati rice or something). Too bad because if people just figured it out now, we might actually get something for him. Gainey has to be smart though and navigate through some real stickey politics. I trust him.
Bottom line is Montreal was the better team last night. Belfour out shined Theo. How often can that happen when they are paying him as an "elite" goalie?
I totally agree - we are paying Theo to be an elite goalie and be consistent and last night was a perfect example. I wouldn't mind cutting Theo some slack if he returned to form 3 years ago when we lost to Carolina in the 2nd round.
The problem is you want to get value for you players in the new NHL and I don't think we will get it with Theo.
