I was very shocked to hear that Brett Hull is hanging them up. Some of you may look at the title of this post and question Hull being a "class act". I have always felt he was. Even when he chose to play for the USA over Canada (supposedly because Team Canada had not chosen him before) . What I liked about this guy is that he was not afraid to speak his mind and he stood up for his principles. Like him or not, he was quick to let you know what was on his mind. I resepct a guy like that. And I respect more that he was not willing to play and collect a paycheck anymore unless he could perfrom at the level that he expected of himself.
Two facts not known about Brett Hull. One, he was a tireless supporters of children's hospitals in whatever city he played in. While in Detroit there was not a week went by that he did not go visit the Pediatric Ward (very quietly). Secondly, apparently he was a great team guy and great in the dressing room. He was always helping out the younger players and keeping things light. Apparently put scotch tape on the bottom of Dominic Hasek's skates before the pre-game warm up causing him to fall everytime he tried to skate (a classic I may add).
On the ice you always got an effort from Brett Hull and he never cheap shotted you. If we want to talk about a class act..Brett Hull. He will be miseed.

This i just another case of what the lockout has done to older players. I really wanted Brett to reach 800 goals, if he played last year he would have been in shape for this year and he would have made it. I have all the respect in the world for a guy like Brett. YOu think Kovalev would retire if he had 1 goal in 20 games? Nah he would want to get paid.
