Got these facts from another board...besides the point though. Check these facts out about this guy. He's gonna be a huge and intimidating enforcer, can't remember when we last had a guy like this...
he's 6'4", "...weighs in at 263 pounds and reportedly has the lowest body fat count on the team", can bench 400 lbs, won the dogs fastest skater competition.
Absolutely amazing, but ... the guy's 26, has not so favourable +/- statistics, and does not score either. Not having seen the guy playing, it's hard to judge.
I say if the kid is 6'4 and 260 something and can bench press 400lbs..I don't care about his plus minus. Besides he will be used on a 4th line. I would not expect to see him in the lineup on a regular basis. But against the Philly's, Bostons, and Toronto's he will be inserted. I expect that they will use Begin when they need "lesser presence". I don't think that since the days of the late John Kordic have we had that real "presence" in our lineup. Hopefully this guy will change that. Teams need to know if they go around knocking down Koivu there are consequences. He will gove more ice to our scorers. Personally I think it is one of the few moves Gainey has made lately that I understand.

How can a forward possibly be that big, that muscled, that strong, that fast, and yet only score 2 goals in a full AHL season? Something's wrong there. The part I don't believe (although I believe you read it, Kendich) is that part about his speed. If he really were the fastest player on the team, with the rest of his assets, surely he'd score some goals.

I know...I myself am a little suspect of that so-called "fact". Either he's fast and his hands are like rock, or he threatened to beat the rest of the dogs up if he didn't win...or that guy who posted it was lying. Take your pick.
also...it seems even less likely because Plecanek won the fastest skater competition at the AHL All Star competition.
I have also read that he's one of the best skating enforcers out there, he likes to hit and cause commotion.
I don't remember if Ivananas was the fastest skater but i remember him being tied for second for shooting speed, 99! Thats huge! he doesn't score because thats not his role, he doesn't play a lot, i have seen him make some nice passes that should have resulted in goals but they didn't because of his linemates.
Ivananas is also one of the most fun enforcers to watch because he is so strong and does not fight in the clutchy grabby sort of way like Odjick did.
and a while after posting that, I actually came accross the fact that he did win the Bulldogs skater comp, beating the likes of Plekanec. This guy must have stone hands, heck, stone wrists as well.
This guy would make Laraque, Worrell, Simon look small...this is exactly what we need in the lineup....anyone wants to run into Huet, give cheap shots to Koivu, we'll have someone to go out and intimidate the the opponents....i think its great, throw him on a line with begin and bulis....thats my opinion, anyone else.
Ivanans has no balance on his skates, which means, on the ice he can't fight. Chara broke his eye socket this year in a fight because he couldn't stand up.
Aaron Downey and Garth Murray will handle our fighting. They are not heavyweights, but in the new NHL, you don't need heavyweights - as Carolina and Edmonton proved (no Laraque in games 5, 6, 7).
We have space for 2 extra forwards so a rotation of Downey (energy&leadership), Murray (energy&defense), and Ivanans (energy&intimidation) will make a nice rotation for the last spot on the 4th line.
