Showcasing Abby or hiding Huet injury?
Permalink Closed

I don't think Montreal gave Huet the kind of money and terms they did to sitting on the bench and I'm a bit confused as to why Abby has been getting so much playing time - it' must be hard for Huet to get into a groove.

Maybe Huet is hurt and/or maybe Gainey/Carbo are showcasing Abby?

Abby won us a point last Saturday and is being rewarded.  Both guys will split time until one really stands out or is traded.  I think that we should "showcase" both and let the offers roll in.  At the deadline (or maybe Christmas time) someone will be in desparate need of a starter and we'll have the leverage.

I'm pretty sure Huet hurt himself in the Game 1 shootout, but since then has played..... & last time, played great.

Maybe it's still tender (no pun intended) & they are babyin' him... or ... there are plans on movin' Abby & they would like him to "up the ante" by performin' well.

Who knows?

MC- if there is one thing that I have learned through my connections in hockey..there is a TON of stuff going on behind the scenes and alot of politics being played with the lineups. We "experts" can sit here and speculate all we want...cause it sure is fun!

Have to agree with the notion of politics being involved in the determination of lineups. In Toronto, for years Pat Quinn continually saddled Sundin with Jonas Hoglund, and kept giving Nik Antropov more ice time than he deserved.

Perhaps behind the scenes issues are impacting on the movement of Lats from the fourth line to the third line. Although he has no shown he deserves the additional responsibility of playing added minutes on the checking line, it appears he will get it tonight. By the way, RDS reports that the Bonk line will match up against the Spezza line, so Lats will be right in the eye of the hurricane tonight...yikes.

I would sit latty and play Murray in his place. What are the lines now. I see this:

Higgins-Koivu-Ryder

Samsonov-Kovalev-Perezogan

Johnson-Bonk-???????

Downey-Plekanec-Begin.

Makes me think I would put Begin on that Bonk line? Then that fourth line is pure crap however. Anyone think this team is mising 1 or 2 decent players to round out some depth here? Compared to Buffalo this lineup is thin thin thin.

One key injury and we have some real trouble I figure.

I think Lapierre will soon find a spot in this lineup.

Stop hijacking threads All good points but we need to keep threads straight.

I Huet really is hurt, maybe that's good because we get to see what Abby can do when carrying the load for 20 games. Huet did great when he had a chance last season.

Perfect scenario:
I think Gainey wants to trade Huet for either a strong forward or a strong defensemen. Hell, with what we are paying Huet we could have both! Just my opinion- but Huet has been playing much better then he was at the beginning of the season, and props to Abby for his superb show the other night stopping 50+ shots.
